Question Locking Gas Cap Sticks

With gas above three bucks a gallon again, it seemed prudent to get the locking gas cap. Only problem is, it doesn't like to loosen. The locking mechanism works fine, but the last time I took it off the bike I needed a pipe wrench and a rag!

Does anyone else have this problem?

P.S. I tried putting vaseline on the rubber gasket and seating surface. I guess I'll have to wait till the next fill-up to find out if it works. At least now I know what to put in my saddlebags: a pipe wrench and a rag!

Which one you got Doc? I have the Triumph OEM locking gas cap with the sliding Triumph cover on top and it works perfectly. I spin it on, turn the key to lock position and it locks and then free spins to the correct position so that the Triumph logo is centered in front of me.If this is the same cap that you got maybe its broken and you should return it?

I think that if somebody was going to steal gas out of your bike, they would just snip the rubber hose and funnel it into a can.A locking cap might just tick them off enough to smash in your tank.JMO

I think the locking gas cap is more for protection against dumb people with a chip on their shoulder that would add something to the tank rather then remove gas, but just my opinion. And it will most likely loosen up as the seals wear in, even the stock one took about a month or two before it was easily off without the death-grip.

Mondo - That is exactly the reason why I have always put a locking gas cap on everything I own - save the family lawn mower and my Rupp Minibike.
And Yes - I'm not thrilled about the fact that anyone can spin off my oil filler cap and insert shavings there as well!

$3 dollars a gallon, How about £1 a litre or $9 a gallon here in the UK.
