Triumph Accessory outlet on Bonny

I had the OEM outlet installed on my 07 Bonny but the receptacle is too small to fit regular 12V cigarette type plugs. I wanted to get some Gerbing heated gloves and I'm not sure what I need that will fit/work with that outlet.

Is it a BMW style connector that Triumph uses? Or do I need a special adapter so that I can plug regular North American 12V cigarette plugs into it? Has anyone out there done it with Gerbings?

Powerlet adapters should work for you.

I bought some to use with my accessory outlet. I ran the GPS, heated grips, phone charger and iPod charger (the last two through the accessory outlet and a Powerlet dual cigar outlet) without too much bogging.

Cigarette lighter adapter? Would you do this on a bike??

I just connected the battery charger lead to the battery and assumed that I could use that for any electrics. In the summer I just tuck it behind the RHS plastic engine cover.

Am I wrong on this one?

Powerlet even makes an adapter so you can use your cigarette lighter size plugs in your
Triumph/BMW-style outlet, without having to replace all the plug ends on your devices (like cell phone chargers, radar detectors, etc.)

Right/wrong .... Neither. I did the same thing for several thousand miles. However, I was used to having a 12v outlet on my bikes that can be used for electric vests, other devices, or to plug in a BatteryTender. Since the Triumph instructions call for wiring thru their fused accessory connector, if your electric device develops a short, the connection is already fused.

Plus, I already had several items with the BMW plug on them, so the Triumph 12v outlet was a natural.

The Triumph outlet is hardly noticeable, as it resides under the fuel tank, and is finished in flat black, with a small black spring-loaded lid that covers it when not in use.

Thumbs up Just a heads up . . .

I did this install in about 5 min. The directions go into great detail about taking the gas tank off, disconnecting the battery terminals and various other nonsense. I simply undid the 2 tank bolts in the back, lifted the tank up and slid it slightly to the side. I then pulled the Aux wire out of the snake and pulled it straight back toward the seat. I put the tank back down, secured it with the 2 rear screws and then routed the Aux wire down the right side and and plugged it into the outlet that I attached on that bar near the carbs as it is shown in the directions. Honestly, it's simple.
Poweroutlet is your one stop shopping for adapters -

I recommend an assortment such as:
CIGAR ADAPTER - PAC-001
"Stubby" connects any device that has a cigarette type plug to a Powerlet socket (BMW type), including cell phones, radar detectors, air compressors, etc..

PL/2SAE "Y" CABLE - PAC-006
Plug two heated vests into your motorcycle without adding an extra socket! Approx 8" long.

PL/SAE CABLE - PAC-008
Manufactured with a basic plug (PPL-001) and 18awg wire. Plug style can be seen on the plugs page.

1 CIGAR & 1 POWERLET SOCKET - PAC-029
Connects any two devices to a Powerlet socket. Approx 10" & 12" long leads.

Thanks for the info guys! The powerlet site has some pretty good info too in their glossary section describing the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Thanks for the Tip

Hedge,

Thanks for saving me from taking my tank off with your short cut tip. The website is great.

I see some heated riding gear in my future.

Question Wired Gerbings Heated gloves to Accessory Socket - Ampearge OK?

I just posted this in another thread but it lloks like iot would fit better here.... so...

I just wired the Gerbings heated vests and gloves to the triumph accessory socket... (I cut off teh triumph socket and spliced a new end, saved $30) but those wires used in the accessory socket (the SWITCHED socket under the gas tank) were so **** THIN I am not sure they can carry the 10 amps the socket is fused for. The gloves & jacket liner only take about 7.8 to 8 amps.... but... those wires JUST LOOK THIN.

Any comments?
