Smile rust areas?

Forget wd40 or whatever you choose to prevent rust...

What areas of the bonneville and thruxton are prone to rust and might need extra protection?

Rust

Only the metal parts. Clean it regularly especially if you live on the coast and it will be fine.

Wink I've got it everywhere!!!

I live in South Florida, near the beach and have a helluva time keeping the rust off of my baby. I've found that the rims get it, the little crome cap near the chock nob gets it. I've had to clean it out of all my allen head screws. Hell, even the the crome chock knob I put on there is corroding. Good luck, it's too late for me, but you might be able to save yourself!

Rust

As said all the metal parts- the whole bike !! The biggies (i live on the coast of Fla as well)
are the galvparts - the axle nuts, adjusters, oh hell the wholething rusts here. Gotta keep on top of it. I use never dull on most - then polich/ wax etc.. The factory chrome sucks!!
The after mkt stuff isnt too bad. One of the worst places on the Bonne not noticed is the ft fender supports & the oil return tube & the inside of the rear shiocks The rims etc you can see easy! Just keep an eye on all. I find it easier to look for stuff like that inthe bright sunlight out of the garage. Mine looked great till i looked in the sun @ the inside of the left- downside shock. Rusted beyond repair ! New ones commin next year & wont be chrome!!
Nice bikes- lousy chrome etc!!

rust

Havnt had any problems with rust, mines a Thruxton so less chrome maybe...
But the lacquer finish on the engine casings was diabolical. I removed the lacquer on engine and camcover casings, polished them up and very happy with result. Far better than standard finish, even when new....just got to re-polish every now and then. I used solvol autosol.

Triumph ddi a really good job with paint and chrome on the Bonnies . The only little spot I have of oxidation is an aftermarket saddlebag mount . The chrome on the Triumph parts is THICK . Wondered why a lot of the Triumph parts were kind of pricey and when you see them up close you see why.
Oh , maybe some oxidation on the X-Ring chain . No biggie.

You don't say where you're living & riding panofish, & that's going to make the biggest difference to when, where & how quickly your P&J will disolve. e.g It's well known in clasiic bike circles that a genuine Arizona bike is much more desirable than one that was dragged out of a Louisiana bayou.
My tip, if you live in a high rust area, get a good climate controlled garage.
