PIlot adjustment

The purpose of tuneable needles is to get the pilot jet mixture right for your particular bike, and for the individual carbs on your bike. 3.5 turns out on each carb on my bike jetted the same as yours doesn't mean your needles should be at 3.5 turns. However, it might be a good starting point. Here's how I do mine.
- set pilot adjustments at Jenks setting for a starting point.
- take bike out for at least a 10 minute ride to warm it up
- set idle at approx 1000, maybe a little less - don't want mains to interfere
- begin turning needle on one carb inward until engine begins to slow down (too lean)
- make mental note of how far in you've turned from starting position.
- back to jenks position.
- begin turning outward until engine begins to slow down (too rich).
- make mental note of how far out you've turned from the starting position
- set needle on that carb in the middle of too lean and too rich.
- example 2 turns - too lean//4 turns = too rich - set at 3 turns out.
- go thru same procedure for the other carb.

That may not be perfect when you're riding ... you may have to tweak to get a smooth transition between the pilots and the mains.

Stock mains 110, correct? with a unifilter and de-snorked you are getting WAY more air through the system. At 1,000 ft., sea level more or less, 112 is not big enough. Looks like most folks are running at least a 120 main. As for the rest of the settings, I've consistently seen 42 pilots with one shim and turns to suit. Get 'er breathing, leave snork out and install uni and put some fat mains in there. You'll be happy.

Because I was home early today and bored I decided to pull my carbs apart and replace the phillips head screws with some allen heads.Whilst I had them in peices I added a shim to the needle. The bike (07 865) is currently "sewing machine" stock (waiting on pipes and filters) and guess what? It ran like p00..(No mid-range).Now from previous experience I know what a difference shims can make once the intake and exhuast are altered so it looks like you are just going to have to wait till you get that filter and pull the snorkle.I hope you have, or are planning to change the exhuast for something that breathes a little better too.

The jetting calculator is good, but designed for 270 motors, not 360.
because of that, jenks is usually closer , but both will get you in the ballpark

Thumbs up on the Thruxton needles. They work great with my current setup, which is stock main jets, no snorkle or AI, N. Hyde Togas and Unifilter. By the way, I don't think that the Uni (when properly oiled) flows much more air than the stock filter - it's main benefit is that you don't have to replace it, just clean and re-oil it. You should be able to go at least 4 turns out on the idle mixture screws (if needed) with no problem. Three turns out is about equal to installing the next larger size. And, don't forget to balance the carbs after rejetting. Be sure that the rubber connectors between the carbs and the engine are leaking any air. Have fun.
