Bad chrome...warranty option??

While I haven't contacted my dealer on this, I'd like opinions.
I've notice that the down tubes on my 06 T100 are going to start flaking off chrome soon. they have started to develop some small hairline cracks and I can see that the chrome will soon be lifting. That will lead to leaking fork seals. I haven't seen this since my Norton a very long time ago, and even my 84 BMW has perfect tubes. At first I thought it was a chip in the chrome, but now I can see it is a defect. Anyone else had to deal with this? Should I take the long ride to the dealer? I could call them but it's one of those things you need to see. Or should I go directly to Triumph and who would I call?
Thanks
Jer

Take it back to the dealer and don't take no for an answer!

Very bad deal. I haven't seen or heard of this before but I would sure take it to the dealer while it is under warranty because like you said it will ruin your fork seals. When I had some leaking issues with my Bonnie Triumph required the dealer to look at it first before they would issue the warranty approval.

Call the dealer (since it sounds like it might be far from you) and tell them you're coming. Maybe even set an appointment so you don't have to stand around and wait. Make sure it gets taken care of, that shouldn't happen and obviously will only get much worse over time.

Are Pictures Possible

I know it is hard to shoot sometimes but would it be possible to photgraph the problem you are having with your forks. I am curious to see what is going on.

If you can't get any satifaction from Triumph and have to replace the tubes call Forking by Frank in Evanston IN. 847-475-1003. Talk to Joyce. I just received a set I ordered last Thursday and they are VERY nice looking tubes. The set cost 245.00 plus shipping which works out to a 150.00 savings from what I would have paid Triumph. Don't worry I found something to spend it on already.

I am not sure I will put them on the bike. Maybe a set of lamps for the end tables in the livingroom.

The walls on Frank's tubes are .35 mm thicker than the stock tubes and require a small modification to the ring on the damping tube. If you have any questions let me know. If the rest of my parts show up tomorrow I know what I will be doing this weekend.

Regards and hopefully Triumph will come through for you,

JP

Actually Frank's in Evanston IL, not Evansville IN.

Aw heck, it's only a couple of letters different!

Oops

Thanks for setting me straight on where Frank's is. I thought IN and IL was just one big state. I guess I was just so excited to find someone that could solve my problem I made the mistake of relying on my memory for something.

But after all what do you expect from someone who lives in the state of confusion...

Properly done industrial hard chrome

shouldNEVER flake off, do not allow them to get away with this one!! the only exception is if there is significant impact damage to the base metal and even then it should crack and stay in place for the most part, your problem was due to improper metal prep.

cosmetic chrome is totally different in this respect.

I had a bit of dodgy chrome on my handlebars. It was only a slight dull 'bloom'. Not as bad as what you described and my dealer swapped the bars no problem.
