no drain plug crush washer ??

Yesterday I changed out the dino oil for the Mobil 1 Syn ($22 for 5 quarts @ Wmart, by the way) And I was surprised to find no crush washer on the drain plug. The bike never leaked a drop and the bolt wasn't overly tight, And I had one to put on (with a little dremel tool massage), but was just curious as to how many others have seen this. And that little freaking oil filter was tight!!

When I did my 500 mile change I found no crush washer, though I too was expecting there to be one. Go figure. I think that was the 1st oil change so none from the factory it looks like - for me anyway.

And yes, that dang filter was on there TIIIIIIGHT. I had to get a filter wrench to get it off.

DG,
That dang filter, all my cursing wouldn't get it off. I was just about to go to the store and get a new filter wrench (because of the small size of the filter) or punch a hole in it with a screw driver when I noticed my big, honking water pump pliers, end of story.
I really didn't want to buy a special wrench because I thought, when it comes time to do it again in 6k, first off I KNOW this filter won't be that tight, and I probably wouldn't be able to find it anyway.

I always ues a cruch washer. However, I some times cheat and turn it over and reuse it again. When I do, I will wrap the plug with teflon tape.

I too have used lots of crush washers over and over. Usually it is the SECOND crush washer on the bike. The first one, installed by the dealer, is usually, well, crushed. That is, after all, what they do. And it is crushed because some neandertal has decided to tighten it to the point where to remove it I need to pound on the end of the wrench with a rubber hammer to free it. After that fiasco I put a new one on, tighten it 'til it just snugs and give it a little mild tug. They last a long time if you don't overtorque them. And, no, they don't leak.........

I replaced it about the third change...the original was gouged. When did Wal-Mart start carrying Mobil1 motorcycle oil? If you got car oil...is your clutch slipping?
