Earthing After Market Indicators.
Picking up my new Bonnie tomorrow.Other than the usual mods to make it go better, am also going to ditch the Starship enterprise rear light and indicators.Looking at the wiring diagram I see there is only one earth wire for the whole rearlight assembly. How are those that have mounted differant indicators and tail lights getting around this? Are you splicing both indicators, tail and stop lights all to the same earth wire?

Depending on what you get, most aftermarket lights ground through their own body at the mounting bolt. You might have to run a ground wire from the light mount back to a good, clean, paint free point on the frame, especially in the back, because of the rubber mounted fender. BTW,my 04 has [had] individual ground wires at every light, that were all ganged into one wire at the plug in connectors.MOST of the time, lighting problems trace back to the ground. Some 60grit sandpaper and a nice jagged star washer can be your friend.

Earthing Indicators
I bought 4 of the Lucas style indicators for my T100, like youself not liking the standards. These also came with just 1 wire each [live] whereas the standards have 2 [live & earth], I just got some lengths of wire, fitted a bullet connector to one end and fitted it to where the original earth was plugged in. The other end needs a round connector which will fit over the threads on the indicator stalk [or even just twisting the bared wires around the stalk will do]. When the indicator nut is tightened it will hold it in place.

Similar problem, no thread jacking intended…
I just recieved the Lucas style rear light (from Bella Corse), and there is only two wires coming out in the back. In the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual there seems to be three. I assume that what is missing in the aftermarket light is the ground wire.
Will the rear light also ground through the housing itself?
thanks in advance
Pelle

Best way is to check is by trial and error, using a length of wire, tap into an earth terminal [indicators for example] and try touching the other end to metal parts of the rear light/bracket, [with the live wire connected up and ignition on.] Make sure it is not hooked into a 'live' terminal or you will get some sparks and maybe blow some fuses when you touch an earthed part. When you find something that earths the back light you can then connect the wire to the 2 points.

Thanks
Always feel like the bike will blow up when I do anything in the electrical department. But I suppose I´ll just have to trust the fuses to do their job… How hard can it be?

Its quite common in battery operated systems to tie the battery return (negative terminal) to the structure of the vehicle, so some lights might only have one wire coming out, and gets the return from the case of the light, although this design is not really good, since then you have current flowing through your structure (frame, fender) back to the battery. If the lights have 2 wires coming out, you are set, the earth will come from being tied to the structure of the bike through the screws.
