exhaust leak

Although I have had my D&Ds for some time I am just now noticing an exhaust leak right where the slip on mights the header. I tried turning the clamp 180 and wrenchin' down then turning 180 again and wrenchin' down again and the leak is still there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
TJ

I use non-hardening gasket sealer, picked it up on a garage sale-50 cent deal. Works fine, no more leaks or black staining and I convinced myself the bike pulls better (50 cents worth better, anyway).

Grtz,Thieu.

(permatex 2 form-a gasket sealant-loctite. Part NO.2C)

Hey Monkey1, RTV is a silicone. Room Temperature Vulcanizing. You can pick it up at auto stores.

Thumbs up

Thanks TJ, I totally forgot about this thread and came back to it today. With the freezing temps I've got I'll have plenty of time to shop for some RTV and knock this out come spring.

How can you tell?

Rock,

I too have the D&D's. How can you tell there's a leak? Do you hear it? Can you feel it? Is it coloring the cans, connector or pipe? Just want to know what to look out for down the road.

Cheers,

High Temp Silicone...if you use it, make sure you give it time to cure before turning on the engine. Overnight will be fine.
