gaiters nightmare
i have rebuilt my sportster several times, but putting the triumph gaiters on "The Black Pearl" has to be the hardest thing i have done to a motorcycle, my fingers will never be the same, but as a good former marine, i succeeded and they look darn sharp. yea.

Huh? I installed gaiters on my bonnie a couple of days ago in about an hour. Easy. Just installed the tach kit today and I like it, but the way the idiot lights are mounted is pretty cheezy.

Sounds like it was really rough. I never put on gators but I have taken my forks all apart to change the fork oil. That wasn't too bad.
What was hard on your fingers while putting on the gators? Are they a tight fit?

What was the problem? Its about two hours worth of work including a fork oil change and a beer.......

Did you have a hard time with the actual gaiters themselves stretching them onto the forks or are you talking about another part of the procedure? I'm curious because I plan on doing this job soon.

Gaitors
I never liked them since the 60's. Glad when the Bonne didnt have them! If they come std w/ the bike it is what it is? Dont understand WHY SOMEONE WOUKLD GO THRU ALL THAT T OHAVE THENM?? I think INMO it looks sportier w/o the "Gaitors". Easier to spot a early seal leak w/o them.

Slightly off the topic . . .
I was wondering . . . I thought that somewhere here I read that if you put on the fork brace you will not have room for the gaiters. Is this true? I was hoping to do both as I plan out my Winter project hit list.

After you remove the tire...
You gotta drop each fork leg off from the fork clamps...I hope you didn't just slide each gaiter over the lower fork legs???? But as long as it worked for you. If done the regular way this would have only been a 35-45 minute job.

Good question .... I just went out to the garage and took a look at my bike with gaiters installed, and don't see where you'd attach a fork brace, since the gaiters cover the sliders where a brace would normally attach (example - Telefix type brace).
