Yeah, there's tons of info here about jets, rejetting, how to do, when to do it, balancing the carbs, etc. My personal belief is that rejetting is needed even if you make no changes as the bike comes from the factory jetted too lean (due to emission issues). If you remove the snorkle, arguably you're increasing air flow into the engine a bit, which will increase leaness just a bit.
Remember there are two jets in each carb - main and idle. In your inquiry, I assume that you're referring to the main jet. You can also install the next larger size idle jet, which should make your bike start easier and idle smoother. As a rough approximation, three turns of the D screw is equal to one jump in idle jet size. You don't need special tool to adjust the D screw. Remove it (slip a piece of tubing over it) and use a Dremel or similar tool to cut a slot in it. Don;t crank down on it - it is soft and the tip will deform. Seat it gently, then back out 1 turn (if you've replaced the idle jet ) of 2 1/2 to 3 turns (if you haven't replaced the idle jet.) Also, don't forget to throw away the 8 screws holding the carb together and replace with allen bolts.
PM me if you have further questions.
