Scrambler..new tires, steers differently

I just switched out my Knobbies on the Scrambler for some of the Metzeler Tourances, which is a way better tire, but I notice that the steering feels so much stiffer. Just not as light as when I had the knobbies on there. Is it possibly cos there'e more rubber on the road now?

is the rear tire lower profile, or the front tire taller profile? It will affect the rake/handling characteristics.

Try loosening your triple clamps and raising the fork tubes about 5-10mm. It will quicken the handling back up.

here's a pic of my bike, you can see the fork tubes raised above the top clamp:

Did you stay with stock sizes? I recently fitted Tourances and the steering quickened slightly. Pressures okay? I run 31 psi / 34 psi.

I went with the Metzeler Tourance tires on my Scrambler and run the same air pressure as the T 100/Bonneville series bikes. 33 psi front and 38 psi rear and my handling and ride are about the same as the T 100. They stick really well in the tight corners and a much better ride all around. I did stay with the stock size.

Went the other direction

Not on a Triumph Scrambler. But I ran street Metzelers for years on my BMW R100GS, switching to Metzeler Tourance (knobbies) a few years ago. the steering is much lighter than with the street tires, so much so that initially, I had to be careful not to let the bike fall too far into a corner. Now that I'm used to the knobbies, I like the additional mileage I get, and have found the Tourances to handle some fairly steep lean angles. it is also very easy to make mid turn corrections to my line.

I installed Metzeler Tourance's on my Scrambler and felt the same thing. The steering tightened, not slowed. With the stock tires the steering had a very light feel, but gave very little feedback because of a lack of overall grip. The Tourance's have a ton more grip so they provide more feedback to the rider, a tighter feel...not slower response.

I guess there are some differing opinions. I did go 1 size up on back & front, so have a 140/80 on back & a 110/90 on the front. It's not supposed to make any difference really, as it's a minor change. Don't get me wrong, the bike still feels good, but just feels a little different.
