Snorkel out and satisfied

Quickest/cheapest mod yet (as described by BlueJ in another thread) was to remove the snorkel.

Given the simplicity of the procedure, I couldn't be happier with the results...the bonnie now has a satisfying grunt with each throttle twist. My only complaint is that I wish I had done it 6,000 miles ago.

It will help to tide me over until my predators arrive...

Put in a better air filter and you'll see a bit more improvement.

I highly agree with you. When I took my snorkel out and changed the air filter, that was all the get up and go I needed.

like most on the forum I have removed the snorkel, added staintunes ,rejeted the carbs,A/I removed, k/n Filter ect.
but the only thing I wonder about with the snorkel removed, is that the air filter might be vulnurable to heavy rain entering through the side panel but i think its unlikely..

I have had no issues with rain ingress with this setup. We do tend to get our fair share of rain over here.

The K&N's would go back on if I intended to ride anywhere where there is a chance of sucking up sand!!!

I agree - so far, that has been my only performance upgrade and I'm pretty happy with it. Mind you, I'm not satisfied just yet, but I'm gettin' there.

Remember that it's highly recommended when you pull the snorkel and change to a free flowing filter you need to rejet . Right now you must be running really lean which isn't good for the motor.

I wondered the same thing, so I added a rubber "wall" at the top of the remaining air filter cover making a backward "C" shape. The wall width reaches the inside of the plastic Bonneville inside cover. So the only air coming in is from the front.

Literally have ridden in some of the worse rains for hours with no water getting in.
