My US Scrambler thinks it's riding on European roads (odometer innacurate)
I recently bought a Scrambler...and the odometer is WWWWAAAYY off. The speedo seems ok, but for every 1 mile I drive my odometer is registering 1.6 miles. I don't know for sure, but doesn't that sound like it is registering in Kilometers? Is there a chance that I have the mechanics of a kilometer rated odometer as opposed to a mile rated odometer? I am still under warranty...so maybe I'll have the dealer check it out.
Any ideas?

Thinking about it, the only functional difference between a kilometer and mile speedometer would be in the odometer. I'm guessing that your trip meter and odometer are both registering kilometers?
The speedometer is just a matter of which scale is attached, the mph scale or the kph scale (or in the US, the mph plus the secondary kph scale). But the odometer has be set up or geared differently internally.
So it seems that you got a kilometer speedo with a miles-per-hour face on it, as you suggested. If you can demonstrate that to the dealer, and that shouldn't be hard to do, you're due a new gauge.
What's more interesting is that it got out of the factory like that. Maybe you have a collector's item.

The error is right for the prob you see,
And I think you are not the only one someone on this forum swears he gets high 40s low 50s for gas mileage, he has to have the other one.

"Peter. Everybody hates their job but you find something you love.... "
Do you think old Jennifer Aniston was thinking about bikes?
As for the speedo? I'd be sure to have the replacement re-set at your correct mileage.

OH ****, and I already took it out of the blister pack. Now the value is only about half. (bad Star Wars action figure joke!)
Thanks everyone, I thought I was going insane. I will take it back to the dealer and have them swap it out.

It's 16.6 miles to my work. The odometer on mt T100 registers 16.6 miles when I ride to work. I get a low of 42 MPG (US Gallons) a high of 48-49 MPG (US Gallons) Always have since my T100 was new.
Fact, not fiction.

I get about the same gas mileage (low 40's to near 50) as tccox, not sure why some people don't believe it. This is with an unmodified motor.

My Scrambler's new so I keep records (and I'm really fond of spreadsheets... - sad I know). Each time I fill the bike up, I record the distance covered on the receipt. I know for a fact that my bike returns 56mpg (European gallon).
I'm obviously not riding it hard enough.
