Arrow Curious.

Hiya, Dream. Welcome to the forum.

Is there a reason you ask this question? It just seems a really strange thing to ask and I wonder if, in you having to ask it, the Bonnie is right for you. Despite all the talk about improving performance on this site, you don't buy a Bonnie for speed/acceleration, etc; it's all to do with how you feel on one.

That said, it's not a straight-forward answer, it all depends on what sprockets you're using. I ride a Speedmaster (same 865cc engine as the Bonnie; 18 tooth front sprocket) and I reckon I'd get 40mph (65kph) in first. It is an estimate as, personally, I don't see the point of redlining just to do 40mph. Someone using a 16 tooth sprocket wouldn't be going as fast at the same revs but they'd get there quicker. (More teeth on front sprocket=higher speed, reduced acceleration.) Incidentally, 2nd gear on mine sees about 125kph at the redline.

If you've read any of this forum, you'll know that there are plenty of performance increases available, from the subtle to the not-so!!!!

Here is a link you can play with, it will let you know the difference with gearing... (if power to get there were not an issue). Use the 2005 T100 preload as stock.

pretty sure it's right around 50 mph (indicated anyway). not 100% sure about bonneville but that's what the scrambler does and I think the gearing is close if not the same

re

hi,

actually, I am a bigginer, ridding a scooter, more precise. I like the bonneville, due to its style and class. personally, I believe it is the most beautiful motorcycle ever built.

without any experience - i dont even have a driving lycence, yet - I was curious to see the difference between the frequecies of changing gear, between a car and a motorcycle. I am not looking for some sport, speedy model. threfore, i think the bonneville might be perfect for me

regards

No need to go flat out in first gear, there are another 4 gears after first. 100mph standard, a bit faster if you up to a 19 tooth front sprocket and other mods.

My '03 BA 790 with 17t hits the (7400 rpm) limiter @ 42-43 mph indicated.

Hi, again, Dream. You can't really compare driving a car to riding a bike; the corners I'd take in 2nd in my car, I take in 1st on my bike.

The question you should really be asking is "Is a Bonneville suitable for an inexperienced rider?" In which case, the answer is a very definite YES. Like anything, tho...take a test ride.
Incidentally, where are you from?

Performance

I think some people reading the various Bonnie sites see all kinds of topics concerning modfications and ways of increasing performance. As far as bikes go, the Bonnie is no speed merchant but in reality, it will go from 0-60 mph faster than 95% of cars on the road. Plenty fast to get you numerous speeding awards from your local Leo, Garda, Copper or what ever you have. .
