Possible New Tri Rider Here...

Hello from Canada,

Been riding for a year on a '07 Kawasaki Versys. Great bike, comfortable, took me to Daytona, through tropical storm Barry, and back. Right around 4500kms round trip. But after a year, I am looking for "something" and then I saw the Street Triple, and I am very impressed. However, when doing my daily commute, when will I be able to use the available 100 hp? Sure I could go to the track, but I am not going to that everyday. And add to the fact that I have to buy sight, and seat, unseen, makes me a little leary of plopping down $12,000 for a new bike. So I am at my local dealer talking Triumph, and ST, Scrambler, and the Bonnevilles. Well, long story not as long, I took their 07 Bonneville fitted with TORs for a 50+ km ride this morning with highway, side road, country, and city driving, and I am very impressed.
Pros: Seat postion, handlebar position, lack of guages, lack of plastic, 'cool' factor, it has that 'something', nimble, easy to throw around, doesn't feel sterile...
Cons: I guess Brits have extra long fingers, because even on the 'shortest' setting, the clutch lever was a HUGE stretch, making 1st gear a little jumpy, hwy wind was terrible, 5th gear pullaway is almost non-existant, pipes could have a louder (just a bit) and deeper note.

So researching before I commit to a new (new, or used is still undecided) I like the fact that Bonnies can be customized. Pipes, colours, etc etc...Does anybody know of anybody, with pics, of a new gen Bonnie that has been 'bobbed', or 'street fighter'd'? I am a fan of the clean, naked (hence the Street III) bike that looks like it can get in a fight win, and still go out for dinner afterwards.
Is there anything that I should watch for before I buy..ie certain leaks etc?Any general comments, good and/or bad about these bikes?

Thanks for the patience and time.

Ham'r....

reading your analisis, sounds like you and a Bonnie would be a perfect fit. Dang, man, you've convince me to get one...

wait, it's already in the garage.

Find the current thread on here "so what don't you like..." on the Twin Hang-out for some of the downsides.

My complaints are there, if you care, but I love the bike and would bet you will too.

Cheers,

Welcome to the forum and to the Triumph brand. You'll likely get a lot of useful advise and other interesting replies.

Here are a couple photos I found with a quick search of "bobbers" in the search engine:

The Bonneville and Bonneville T100 are great bikes and ripe to be altered/customised. No real bad points for me, only stock pipe too quiet [as on most new bikes these days] , stock seat a bit hard etc. but all easily changed to suit you own taste and style. Unless you are looking for Hyabusa speed, I think you will enjoy a New Bonny.
