Unhappy My ignitor is dead

A new one has to be shipped from England apparently so there's another weekend without my Bonnie. Shipping will take 5-6 days!! I guess it's coming by boat.
Has anyone else had this happen? What does it do? It costs $500!! Yikes!!

Wink

It's the sealed small black ignition module that resides under the seat. It sends the "spark" at TDC (Top Dead Centre) on the power stroke of the piston, to the coil, the coil in turn increases the voltage WAY UP (read 30,000v +), the current passes from the coil through the ignition wire where it jumps across the gap on your spark plug.

It's a sealed unit, maintenance free, and it either works or it doesn't.

Likely costs $ 15.00 to manufacture, $ 10.00 to package, inventory, and run it through the distribution network, and with MARK-UP sells out for $ 500.00

I'd love to get inside one thats gone bad and see whats in there and check to see what may be wrong. Possibly it's a chip and no other components. But if there are other components it might be worth looking into one to see if they are simply diodes or something along those lines that are going bad and then it may be fixable. So many have had to fork out $500 for what could possibly just be a simple fix. of course Triumph isn't going to tell you that.

Maybe you can bypass Triumph and go straight to Gill.

Since it is dead, anyway

Have you considered, getting one from British Customs? it is cheaper andhas a higher rev limit. I think I'm going to this if / when mine goes.

Is this a common problem? I only have 23,000km on it. Does anyone know of a cheap replacement that would work? I'd like to keep a spare if they are problematic.

You can pick up a Procom Igniter (what BC sells) for 100-125 on E Bay. It also advances timing 3 degrees and raises the rev limiter on 790cc motors to 8400RPM. It is a straight plug in substitution. However, I have run into hot starting problems with two of them, but they were replaced without question after calling their Sales Dept. The statement they either work or don't is incorrect based on my own experience, at least with Procom units
