removing grips

There are tons of threads on this, but most of them are boiled down to this:

1. The elegant way, which is to carefully slip a thin screwdriver under the grip, followed by the little red straw attached to a WD-40 spray can. Just one little squirt, a few twists and off it comes. If you are reusing the grips, be sure to wipe out the WD-40 so it does not interfere with a good grip when it is put back on.

2. The destructive approach, which is to cut it off with a utility knife. This inhibits reuse to some extent.

If you have access to an air compressor you can remove and replace grips in mere seconds. Of all the ways I've done it over the years, this is by far the easiest.

Cool - thanks man.

Do I need adhesive when putting the old grips on my new bars?

No, just slide them onto the new bars. They will stick just fine. And it won't be the end of the world if you cannot get all the WD40 off too. I used it to get them back on to the new bars, and it will dry out and stick fairly quickly.

You don't need any adhesive, since the rubber grip will readily stick to the chrome bar, but some people have used hairspray to slip the grip back on, and when the alcohol evaporates, it acts like a glue. There are also aftermarket products specifically for this, but I have not found any need for them.

How do I get my grips off? I don't. The factory grips are fine with me, and I don't feel like dealing with it.

Please don't tell us that you're putting white grips on! Please! Wasn't it you that was looking for whitewall tires too?

Easiest way I've found is to put a drop of liquid dish soap on the head of a flat screwdriver, slide it up inside and run it around once or twice, then the grip will just pull off in your hand. Wipe the bar down with alcohol, allow to dry, then spray with hairspray and slip grip on. That's it, you're done...
