new sv650-bonnie conversion pics!
The machinist is finishing up my modified sv650 trees and sent me a couple of pics.
Here is what I started with, a box of goodies like it's Christmas:
Here the machinist has pressed out the SV stem and is boring the bottom clamp to fit the bonnie stem:
Here's one that shows the SV top clamp in a sweetass jig he made to hold it in place while machining it. He's making it a little thinner here. I'm going to have him mill down the 2 tabs you see pointing up (they actually point down, it's upside down in the pic). He'll mill them down and drill/tap them and that's where I'll mount my new gauge bracket (when I make it). I want to mount it from the bottom so the top of the top clamp/tree is super clean:
You all may remember me posting this pic:

As you can see, the fork legs are bare aluminum and so is the rear wheel. In comes Mr. Spray Paint can to fix that right up. Check out my newly-rattle-canned forks!
Juicy parts indeed, eh? El Machino tells me the last of the parts are being shipped Friday!!! I can't wait to get this beast on the road!!! There is still a ways to go, after all, I gotta put the mother back together and figure out how I'm going to make a bonnie master cylinder work SV brakes...shouldn't be too bad though and if worst comes to worst I have all the SV brake parts too.
More to come!!!

: Looks great! I think the master cylinder will be ok, the CBR's used a master cylinder similar to the stock bonnie. Both the SV and the CBR share the same dual 4 pot Nissin calibers, which are like the single bonnie 4 pot calibler : I hope that came out right, it's early.

Very cool, can't wait to see it all together.
Drapes, wallpaper, shower curtain, what ever it is it just shows he has a feminine side. At least he has a manly drill press with windex on it.

BTW, I would like to point out that the pictures were taken in a female's bathroom. Better light in there, ya dig?

I commend you on having the creativity and the cojones to undertake such a project.
So, if I may as, how did you determine whether the SV650 bits would work properly when bolted to a Bonneville? Was it SWAG? Or was it more scientific than that?
Good work.
TBD

First I thought I could just slide the SV forks into the bonnie trees since they're both 41mm but the bonnie front end is too narrow.
I parked my bonnie next to my friend's SV and measured the fork length, wheel diameter (with tire, so tire diameter) to try to figure how much the rake would be thrown off. It is very close, I'll have to lower my rear end about 30 mm to make up for the front end being lowered by about an inch and a half vs stock. I used an angle gauge to determine the rake so I should be able to set it up perfectly with shorter shocks.
It's been a helluva time getting it done, it is definitely NOT a bolt on affair, but it isn't impossible either. If anyone else is interested in this mod I'll post all the exact measurements etc and refer you to the machinist I used so that the results could be duplicated. I'll also post a total cost, but results will vary due to sourcing the parts. It will be under $1500 for mine though.
