AI again!
OK, I know the Air Injection system is mentioned in loads of threads but if you haven’t removed the AI, then do it. The job took me about an hour and half including two cups of coffee and heating and bending a ring spanner to reach the air injectors.
The bike doesn’t pop and back-fire on the over-run anymore – whoopee! I have the TOR pipes [and new jets] but they sound a bit, well, naff and nothing like my old trumpets; that is the next project!

If the TORs aren't enough sound, go for the BC Predators. It was the most satisfying mod I've done by far.

Just thought of something, I am a little slow sometimes, does the new efi motors have AI if not think of the fun the owners will miss in removing them!

Why???? My T100 runs perfectly, gets great gas mileage, the pipes, at 2500 miles are not blueing and I have no worries about dealer denying warranty OR failing inspection if state imposes emissions inspection like they already do on autos. And my T100 does not pop or back fire on over run. So Why ?????

I think it's all about the blueing. If your's aren't blueing, they must be made of some special Uber-stainless that the rest of us didn't get. Personally, I like the blueing and haven't removed the AI yet. But I did get the kit a while back. I may have to remove my carbs for a good cleaning, so I might do it while the tank is off anyway. I don't get any popping though.

You have the only Bonneville on the planet without blue pipes, and no pop with AI and stock tune. No dealer is going to deny warranty service for this mod...almost all of them do it...or sell the parts to do it. The state may impose emission inspections at some point in time but they will likely be visual...looking for a convertor...AI is not a common device on US motorcycles....unless the inspector is actually looking for it...he wouldnt know it was missing. Besides do you honestly think the HD riders and there aftermarket will ever let this fly? But even if the zealot "green people" do manage to shove this down our throat...it would take all of 15 minutes to put it back on prior to inspection..and another 15 minutes to pull it off. And I am willing to bet my properly tuned, NO Emmision, Unrestricted bike runs cleaner and more effiecnt the stock. In stock tune the bike barely pulled 35 mpg with a light hand....I know pull 45-55 MPG without babying it. Triumph choked the hell out of this bike to meet emmision and noise requirements.

I'll take that bet anytime. You come to Charlotte and we'll take both bikes to a emissions testing inspection station. I promise my properly tuned , AI equipped T100 is cleaner. 35MPG ?? there was something bad wrong with your bike. My T100 has gotten in the high 40s since new. Filled up yesterday and got 48 mpg the last tank. And yes my AI equipped T100 pipes have only blued about 1 1/2 inches out from the head at 2600 miles I'll post pictures. And emissions testing in Mecklenburg county is not visual. They actually test the exhaust and you're giving a report showing % of pollutants in exhaust. And they will fail you if numbers are above allowed. I promise you thats coming for motorcycles someday.

Mmmmm...interesting
This is a very interesting discussion. I have an early 2001 bonnie, and had done all the usual stuff of removing the AI, and snorkel, plus adding a Unifilter: all done when I changed to TORs after about 600 miles.
I have always had trouble with stalling at idle so changed to 42 pilots which seemed to help.
Recently, however, I started to wonder the reasons for doing this and did a bit of searching. The first thing I found was a article on the resonance design of the modern airbox which uses a snorkel to smooth out power drops in the mid range. This got me thinking as it seems that anybody who removes the snorkel has to add a shim to cure a mid range dip in power - co-incidence??
Next I found some research on paper filters vs foam vs K&N. The conclusions were that all filters flowed almost the same, but the stock version filtered MUCH better.
This made me think that perhaps the Triumph engineers had not got things so bad in the first place....time to go back to (nearly) stock. I changed back to the stock filter, put back the snorkel, kept the TORs for the sound, rejetted to 40 pilots and 115 mains as supplied with the TORs, and even replaced the AI. The airscrews were also reset to 2.5 turns out.
Well, I'm very happy. The bike starts first time hot or cold, and has the smoothest idle I can remember. It runs smoothly to the rev limited in all gears, and tops out at 110 (indicated) - the same as I was getting with the previous setup.
Case for Triumph's original setup proved for me
