Bar Installation

Soooo...

I'm attempting to put on my Superbars and Napoleon End Mirrors this upcoming weekend - I feel confident on the Napoleon End Mirrors thanks to Hedgey - but the bars, well... that's a whole lotta important stuff attached on them there bars.

Anyone have experience with this, any helpful pointers or tips before I embark on my first Bonneville "General Hospital" moment?

oh, yeah so if you ran across my inflammatory post this weekend concerning the newbonneville horn...er..um, so that power drill sound I thought was the horn...turns out I was pressing the ignition button.

Doh! <---Derrr!

Protect The Tank

First things first and the most important - Protect the tank, use good quality tools, take your time!

Basically undo the screws that hold every thing together, swap bars and reassemble.

Remove left side controls first (clutch side) and hang them over headlight (secure with tape) then remove grip if you intent to reuse it, a long thin srcewdriver helps with this process.
There's no need to disconnect throttle cables, only need to loosen the screws which hold the controls, remove brake lever assembly and hang over headlight secure temporarily with tape.
Then remove 4 hex head that hold bars on and slide throttle controls off as you remove the bars.

Good Luck

Drew,
Pretty easy, and hard to mess up, so don't worry about it.
Start by unscrewing the left (all point of reference are from sitting on bike) side controls. Completely undo the two allen key bolts, then unscrew the two philips head screws holding the controls itself together. Some will say that is not needed, but trust me it's easier. Just let that side hand off to the front of the bike, and make sure you dont let it just drop and hit your tank. On the right side, you will now just loosen the two allen key bolts to the point where you can move the controls around. But dont try to pull off yet, might stretch wires to much. After that, move to the clamp itself. Use the right size (metric 8mm I think) allen key, or you run the risk of stripping the bolt... and giving yourself a bigger headache. Loosen then up, and go slowly on the last one as the stock bars will try to fall back and aim for you tank. Once that bar is off, slide the right side controls off. And to put the new bars on, just go in reverse. You might want to leave the new bars slightly loose until you put all the other stuff back on and sit on the bike and adjust the way you want the new bars. I have my superbars bent down pretty far, high enough just to clear tank... and I love it that way.
Let me know if you need anymore help
Mondo

Edit: Or just follow instructions above

Ha ha ha ha, that is the funniest thing I've read on this forum for a long, long time. How did you find out?

Drew-

In case you haven't figured it out - the 4 bolts that hold the bar clamp (that metal part with 'Triumph' stamped into it) on are covered with little plastic clamps. I used a tiny screwdriver and levered it against the bar and they popped right ouGood luck - it's quite easy. Things to be careful of - when you loosen the controls they will suddenly twist down to where gravity wants to take them, so be ready for that. Same thing with the bars when you loosen those 4 bolts, they will want to twist down and bash into the tank, so cover it with a towel or something.

TB-T100 - in my defense I spent most of the weekend in a medicated haze to due my head cold - but yeah, it was pretty funny when I figured it out.

To all contributors:

Thanks again! I feel much more confident in taking this on!
