pin to hold cam lash gear?
Some time ago, someone posted a mechanical drawing of the dimensions to make this pin, and I am having no luck with a search. Does anyone have that info handy?
Thanks,
G

Cam locking tool
I posted it (or at least one of the posts). Let me see if I can find it .... I think I put it on Photobucket. If so, I'll send you the link. I used an electronic micrometer to arrive at the dimensions, so I think I'm right on.
Here's the link. The pin itself didn't scan too well on my copier/printer, but it gives a good idea of the physical size of the locking pin.
You might want to make two if you're removing both camshafts at the same time (so you might be able to swap a few shims around)

Geoff - if you're not in a big rush, I could loan you my two Triumph locking pins. I'm heading to a P-51 airshow in Columbus tomorrow, but could get them in the mail to you this Saturday. I wouldn't need them back for a while, since I just pulled my cams and reshimmed them (all of them had gone wide).
Drop me an email at bcgilligan@yahoo.com with your address if you'd rather borrow a set instead of making them.

I found a 5/32" pin punch works. They are tapered and fit nicely. $1 each out of a grab box at my local Sears. No way to secure (thought about drilling for inserting a pin) so be careful when storing the cams during the task.

the Triumph tool has no way to secure either, the backlash spring pinches them in place.

Sweat - you got that right! You do have to make sure to hold the locking pin in place as you remove the cam so that the spring tension of the backlash gear holds the pin in place. (Don't ask me how I know this, aside from the fact I can say I'm happy I purchased the wrench to reset the backlash gear!).
