Angry rev limiter

Is there a way to raise the rev limit speed on my '02 america? She really pulls hard right about the time the freakin' limiter kicks in. (Don't know where that's at, though, cause I ain't gotta tach.)

Not at this time. the only people who make a black box with an upped limit is procom, and they only make them for the bonnie 360 degree engine. None made for the 270 yet. And there is no other way except to mod it, and theres only one person who knows how. Jojje. He's a member here who lives in Sweden, and for a fee he has done this for a few people. But he can't do it for those of us in the states for legal reasons or some such thing. If you know someone in another country he might be able to do it for them if you send it to them, but thats just speculation. You could PM him and ask. AFAIK he's the only person on earth that knows how to do this aside from those in the biz. At least as far as anyone at any of the triumph forums knows of.
I agree with you by the way......at least with pipes and air mods these things seem to have much more by the time they hit the limiter. I have the same issue, tho lately i haven't been winding it out much so i'm not too bothered by it. That ain't to say i wouldn't buy one tho. ;D

O man, I feel for you.. I have had many conversations to try and get the rev limiter upped.. just aint gonna happen.

I have been told by Triumph that I shouldnt be hitting the rev limiter in each gear, I have actually hit the limiter in top gear at 120 MPH.. I am about to change the front sprocket to a slightly bigger one and hope it stops the problem.

BTW, Triumph say " have you bought the right bike"? its a cruiser NOT a sports bike.

Raising the rev limited on the 270 degree engine is limited by the design of the system. Even if you raise the values of the rev limiter the engine will still shut down around 8100 rpms. You can get them to turn higher rpm's but its more complicated than just raising the rev limiter.

trashcanman,

I did hear it was a physical thing that stopped the 270 engine going higher, perhaps those mechanical counter weights?? anyway, I have amended my riding style to compensate.. its still a **** fine bike.

Any idea why the 270s should be limited and the 360 not? I might be missing something here but i can't for the life of me figure out why??

It has to do with the pick up postioning and the fireing sequence. On the 270 degree engine the ignition system becomes confused by the faster cycling rate. Its the nature of the design. Triumph I guess when designing it never really intended it to go above 8100. So to overcome this problem you have to pretty much design a different system. 2 pickups perhaps? Its not a mechanical problem but an electrical one. Having said all this. There not really much to be gained with this engine by going any higer as you already passed peak hp before this point. Unless you're doing different cams and such. Or perhaps doing a run at the salt flats or such. If you'd like a more detailed explaination of all this drop jojje a line. He's the man who can answer all your questions.http://www.triumphrat.net/newreply.p...ote=1&p=829142
