Gps

Is anyone using a GPS system on their bike--I own a T100 and am considering a Garmin Zumo 450 or the Tom Tom Rider 2nd Edition. Any experience with these or other GPS on their bikes? Also, how do you like the handlebar mounts???? Pics of any other installations would be great...

Thanks for all your advice,

Cheers

I'm mulling the purchase over myself.

Here's a comparison I found:

I bought a Magellan RoadMate 2000 on sale for $150. It is absolutely great for when I'm on the road and there is some major accident (seems like once a month). First I pull out the maps I have showing ALL the roads to get an idea of the best detour. Then I follow the GPS which makes it much easier to find those back roads.

It is good to have both maps and GPS.

Garmin Quest .... have it 4 years or so and it is great. Comes with a little ear bud and it finds gas stations and more. I am severely directionally challenged.

I use a Garmin eTrex. Its too small to use for any detail while riding, which reduces my chances of fixating. I toss it in my tank bag map window to avoid using a handlebar mount.

I run all over Indiana doing relocation work for the State, and having a Garmin is fantastic. I would recommend them to anyone!

I use an etrex as well; it doesn't have map functionality but it will display tracks and predefined routes. The handlebar mounts for them are very solid and cost less than $20. Etrex is nice if you need something basic; also other models in the etrex series have more function and are compatible with the same mount (the mount is a combination of a piece that clamps onto your bar with rubber buffers that has half of a latch on it, and a replacement for the back cover of the gps that has the other half of the latching device built in). The latch mechanism is very simple and functional and doesn't come undone or anything like that.

Garmin great results

I used a Garmin 530c on my recent trip to NYC Back to Florida . Was absolutely flawless! Mounted it with heavy duty Velcro.
