So close...

Almost bought a Bonnie yesterday. I was out helping a friend shop for a new bike Thursday and when I walked into my local Triumph dealer I found a Black on the showroom floor, marked $5999. Well, I was half-seriously joking about getting it, and when I left the dealer, the thought stayed in my head.

By way of a little background, I'm planning to get a Bonnie Black within the next 6 months or so, but I first have to sell a condo and my collector car. That was the deal I made with the wife, and she's great about by bike obsession.

So anyway, I spent all day yesterday on the phone between the salesman and my wife, negotiating with both!! I ended up with 6 months no payments, no down payment to give me time to sell the condo and/or car. The wife basically said "if you want it that bad, go ahead, but I don't want to hear about the next one".

End result, I decided to be an adult and try to control my impulses. Not fun, but seems the responsible thing to do. If I should have any unexpected financial emergencies, I'd be sunk at this point. So I'm forced to hold out a little longer. So close, yet so far away...

LOL, that is the same exact thing that happened to me! I went to just look at them in person and promised the wife I would wait a little bit longer before I bought one. But then I seen a 06 w/ only 600 mile on if for 6k... so I sat there and talked to the sales guy for about 2 hours and decided to wait too. But then I came to my senses on the way home, stopped at a Micky D's and called USAA for the lown. Well end story, I went back 45 minutes later and bought it. Deal still laughs at me about the whole thing. Wife got over it after a couple of nights . Would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maturity is a scary thing. Eventually it ends in old age. I know, been there, done that. Only saving grace is that there will always be a "deal too good to pass up" that comes along down the road. Impulse buying of bikes led to a six bike stable about 5 years ago for me. I was sure I "needed" all those bikes, but learned that I didn't "need" all the maintenance, the inability to move an inch in the garage to get anything done, and the "joy" of keeping all six on the road year round.

Given today's dying housing market and your having a condo you want to get rid of, buying the Black may have been a more risky move than most would think it would be. I sure wouldn't want to be trying to sell a house around here now. Talk about taking a hit!

Similar story here...

Difference is that I had sold my house, after a bloody whole year in the market and a couple of price reductions. Still...

One day I was driving my car and a black Thruxton rode alongside. I had not seen a Triumph since the time I lived in England. I felt in love with the whole look of it specially the back. And it did NOT sound like a you-know-what.

It got feverish...

Research showed though that as a classic the Thruxton lacked some of the more modern components like tubeless tires and alloy wheels and the riding position was not so good for extended riding, which in the U.S. just happens.

Then I got on the Bonnie T100. Shweet! Perfect riding position, great instrumentation... But at the dealer I saw one being delivered that right there in the showroom got its pipes blued after one minute of being on...

Speedmaster v. America was an agonizing week. Double disk brakes are really nice, but the back seat was to laugh. I really like the America's handlebars, seats, and more chrome...

Then the color. I love black and he Dark Prince look, but when I saw the blue and white I saw my destiny: I was going to ride for truth and justice the American way.

On a classical ride too, found in the Bible... "Moses' Triumph roared through the hills..."

Hey MECSCC, you are indeed a wise soul. I have 3 bikes now, (well, two and a scooter, really) in addition to the cars. I have begun to realize that something ALWAYS needs maintantence or repair. sometimes 2 or 3 of them at a time. Some days it seems as though I'm driving one car to the shop and dropping it off for service, and bringing home one of the others. It's getting a little rediculous, which is why I'm considering selling my '70 Buick convertible.

Now to compound things, my mother passed away 3 weeks ago (go see 'em while you can, folks) and now I need to sell her Condo and her car, in a really bad condo market.

The moral of this story is ( I think ) that I've always wanted a small "collection" of unique bikes, and despite the hassles, I still do. I just need to get rid of some of my distractions so I can do it. And you're right, there's always a great deal just around the corner. I'm just a little unsure about how the fuel injection thing is gonna work, if they are really doing that. But we'll see what the future holds, and I still have fun bikes in the meantime.

I'm dancing around this issue myself currently.

Financially, it would be better to wait until spring, but I really want an '07 due to the carburetor, and I'll be agonizing all winter about whether there will be any left by spring, especially in the color I want.
I've discussed it with the financial planner (my wife) and I think she's about to agree to getting one before winter, but I can't push to hard.

So close but yet, so far....

Bonne

Just stopped in to see if it was in your garage yet?? I know the condo mkk heresucks. I wasnt ready to buy a bike when I did. I didnt know how I was gonna do it eihter? The idea came to me. I used a 0%/ 1yr credit card check & bought it down as needed then. After 1 yr all turned around & low & behold the Bonne was paid in full! If its meant t obe then it WILL happen. Tjhe dealer thought the 0% thing was a cool idea. It cost me notta cept the price of the bike. And everyone lived happilly ever after- especially ME & my new Bonne!
As said let us know when its home where it belongs!!
