Crystal ball says 904 kit in my future

Well, this weekend I finally took the wife for her first ride on the Bonnie into the GA mountains. She really liked the bike (glad I changed out the shocks, springs, and seat first) and enjoyed the ride, she said she enjoyed it more than riding on the Harley. The only disappointing thing was she said she thought the Harley (883 Sportster) was "faster". I don't think it is faster but 2-up it certainly doesn't seem to have the pull the little Harley does from a stop. She said the Bonnie doesn't throw her back as much as the Harley does during acceleration.

I've been considering a 904 kit but now I am sure sometime this winter I will be installing one. I am assuming the added cc's and extra compression will change her tune once I get it all done... :-)

Cheaper thing to do first would be eliminate your stock airbox (and rejet it accordingly). It'll pick up a good amount of hp with that mod and matching exhaust. I sprocket change will help your 'off idle' pull too.

Dude .... Your not going to fall for that ..."oh Honey if it were just a little bigger" Go for the enlargement because you want to and not because her downcast eyes make you feel inferior.

LOL

Hell If she is willing to let you spend the money go for it however you can! On the cheaper side ...or until the surgery ... how about a 17t counter sprocket.

Your Bonnie should take care of an 883 without a problem. "Feeling" faster is the torque. Even in stock form, the Bonnie should be 10-15 more hp. I agree with the comments here that the air box/tuning aspect should get you to mid-60's hp. With the 904, I'm at 81 hp and 60 flb. Takes care of 1200 HD's and 1000 Ducati Sports fairly well.

Thumbs down Hd 883

I think, and correct me if i'm wrong, but the Bonnevilles will make mince-meat out of any 883 HD anytime, anyday, in everyway!

I still have my 883 custom (so I can compare the two easily) and it definitely has more torque down low, no question about it.. redline is around 5500 and I am sure the Bonnie easily takes it top end, but the little HD will throw you back in the seat with more force than the Bonnie.

Mods are very similar for both bikes: hi-flow air filter, free flow mufflers, and rejet accordingly.

Dude, relax... I said I was already planning to bump it up anyway, I don't do things unless I want to do them. I just thought I would mention her impression of the two bikes, and after I took the HD out and cranked on it real hard, I have to say up to 70-80 or so I agree the little HD has it over the Bonnie.

How much more hp/torque could I expect to get with airbox removal and rejet, if I keep the TORs? Right now I have TORs, K&N, no snorkel, and rejet accordingly.

Seems the Jenks tuning guide I read said there were mixed conclusions on removing the airbox and some thought they lost some mid-range power.

Thanks, Greg

I made 69 rwhp on my 790cc Bonnie (same cc as your 06 Bonnie Black) and the only mods I have are airbox elim, preds, and BC ignitor box. Wanna say the TQ was something like 54-56lbs. I didnt dyno run it before the mods. I've seen numbers online at 10-13hp increase over stock. From my understanding, the TORs really dont increase HP performance to speak of ... just sound. I might be wrong on that as I've never really researched them.
