Changing oil tomarrow, is this right

You guys got me scared about oil and filters. I got Mobil 1 racing 4T fully synthetic 10w-40 (3 way protection) see photo. Is this right, I hope so cause it was 14.95 a quart. The manual doesn't say where the oil filer hole is, is it the giant crome plug with the big slot on the top off the case? Yes ok, so I'm a little slow... mike

Yes to both. I'd recommend getting a Haynes manual. It's helped dullards like me out quite a bit, plus it's a sweet hardback that looks good on the coffee table.
PS - Don't forget to go real slow when filling up and watch that sight glass closely, these bikes tend to overfill pretty easily and don't take the whole amount usually.

yeppers your on the right track, that would be the filler hole. Also its 3.8 litres so hold back .2 litres and return it to the jug. If you change oil every 6000mi, I do, you might need that .2 at around 4500mi. That'll start some mad postings.

And fill the new filter with oil before you attach it.

Shop around for the oil next time....4T can be had for $9.00 a qt. At that price you might as well by the Triumph oil....Dont overtighten the drain bolt...

$7.99 at Autozone a few months back (in Maryland). Sometimes Walmart carries it as well.

Mobil 1 4MXT is perfect for your bike...Sorry to tell you this but Walmart sells it for $8.00 a quart...you got broomed this time if you paid $14.00! Take the oil back if you want and get your money back...
Regarding the amount of oil you need to add in my opinion...and all the shops I have talked to you do not need to waist time trying to measure .2 quarts...it does not matter...the shops don't do it...your tranny won't know the difference it is a 4 quart system...it will not blow seals...just change the filter, drain and dump in 4 quarts and go riding...most auto parts places and Walmart (Wally World) also sells the correct filters for around $2.50...the wallyworld part number for the Thruxton/Bonnevilles/Scramblers is OILFILTER ST6607...

Also the owners guide recommends using a new crush washer each change. The dealer should have them if not, Honda car dealers do. The ID is 14mm and OD is 21mm. The last thread on this most felt if the old washer is in good shape then its not critical to use a new one. But I thought you should know your options.
