Are the small plugs on our header pipes for A/F sensors?

Our header pipes each have a removable threaded plug located about 10-12" from the exhaust port. These must have a purpose, presumably to insert a probe that tests for proper air/fuel mixture(??). If that is their purpose, does anyone know of a Lambda-type sensor small enough to thread into these ports? Or of an adaptor that would screw into the header, and permit a larger Lambda sensor to attach here?

They are for co monitors, and unfortunately, the lambda sensors have to be in the exhaust stream, so even if you rigged and adapter, it wouldn't work. You have to drill a large enough hole to weld on the lambda sensor bung.

Thanks, Thrux - I was afraid of that. I looked at some Bosch Lambda sensors on the web where the threaded portion appeared to be the size/diameter of spark plug threads.

holes

My guess is that they are for future O2 sensors for emmission control, like autos have now. If Bonne goes EFI next year, Ill bet you see them used!
