Mods

Ok, so she's been here a day and already the mod-clock is ticking!

How easy is it to black the pipes, can you do it yourself or is it a pro job?

Something like this example:

which is Mr Loxpumps beauty.

Look through Bonneville photos [sticky] and find mods that appeal to you. Then use search to find posts on how it was done. There are sooooo many tips and tricks that will produce great results for little or no money.

Blacked out pipes

It can be done a couple of different ways. You could send them to britishcustoms and have them ceramic-coat it (http://www.british-customs.com/store...d-headers.html), or find a local shop to coat them which might be cheaper. Or you can do it for 5-10 bucks by painting them with BBQ or engine paint found at most auto parts stores and Home Depot. I used BBQ paint which has not chipped or faded at all for about 2 weeks now. Taking off the headers is very easy, just don't bend play with the copper washer or you might have to get a replacement. Took me all of 3 hours for take down, paint, reassemble (and a six pack was in that time too so could have been done quicker). End result, great...

Just Did My Pipes!

I've just painted my pipes, too. I looked at removing the headers, but it looked a bit tricky, so I spent about an hour masking the bike off, and painted them in situ. Looks really nice too, and I'm certainly no professional.

yup, I scuffed mine with a 600 or 800 grit sanding block and cleaned them, hit them with a coat of the BBQ black spray paint, then rubbed the paint with 0000 steel wool. 3-4 more coats with steel wool after every coat.

looks great!

OWV it looks like your headers are already powder coated so I'm in agreement with NOS to send 'em to B.C. or look for a local shop for coating. Yeah it'll be a few bucks but it is well worth it. as seen below

Not exactley how it works... the good thing about using British Customs for ceramic coated headers is their exchange program. You can order a pair from BC through most US Triumph dealers. When you receive them the dealer will take your stock headers and send them back to BC.

The cool thing about that is there's very little down time. You don't have to be without your ride while they're being coated. Ceramic coating also reduces the surface temperature by nearly 25%, and they'll cool down in almost no time at all.

That's what I did and I'd recommend British Customs to anyone that wants their pipes black ceramic coated. Click on the image below to have a look at mine.

Cheers guys. Wise words and a great help. If I get it done I'll be sure to post some pictures.
