Question Maybe a Stupid Question...

OK, so maybe I'll look stupid...

My "new" 2001 model Bonneville is the stock model.

My question is: does it have a model number?

I know there's the T100, with the extra bits... but what about mine. The only info in the owners manual suggest 908MD - thats not a proper model number!!!!

MY old Daytona was a T100R. Given Triumph's attention to detail I would have expected one.

Sorry to disappoint

Your Bonneville is pure it is a Bonneville through and through, there are no extras necessary, it is a thoroughbred amongst bikes and therefore requires nothing more, even something so insignificant as a model number.

A Bonneville by any other name would smell as sweet...

BYW, what year T100R did you have? I acquired a '68 last year which I'm slowly restoring.

Well, it was originally a 74 but was registered in 76. The Meriden factory closed in '74 and it is either a 74 bike that hung around till '76 or it was built in '76 from '74 parts.

It started life in blue but after some dimwit knocked it over in the staff car park and dinted the tank I had it fixed and resprayed in red.

Sadly I totalled it in 1980 and I haven't seen it since. That was the last time I rode a bike until this week when the Bonnie was delivered.

A bit of info on your '76 bike Wacky, it would have been built by the Triumph Co-operative still at the Meriden works and your swinging arm would have been bored and bushed by my father and be one of the last T120's produced. I thought though that the front wheel would have had disc braking during this period.

Okay, let's get serious about this! Your motorcycle's surname (or family name) is Triumph, like all the other bikes that come off the factory line. Her given name, or her name within the Triumph family, is Bonneville. That's what is on your registration, owner's manual, etc. Other designation like T100 or 865 or whatever are like Senior, Junior, or whatever. What is really important is what you will call her. She has to have a name, and we've had some pretty lively discussion on this forum as to how to come up with that name.

First thing you need to know is that your Bonneville is, in fact, female. We know this because of three simple things:
  1. She's beautiful. Far to beautiful to be anything but female.
  2. She cost you a lot of money.
  3. She's likely to go on costing you a lot of money.
If that doesn't define a female, I don't know what does. With that settled, you just need to come up with an appropriate name. If you're having trouble I can help you with that as well. I've posted this advice before and it went over pretty well, so here it is again.
  • Remember, your bike is British. I don't care what anyone says about where she was assembled or what kind of carbs are on her, she's British.
  • The Sun is a popular tabloid newspaper in England, and every day they feature a hottie known as the Page 3 Girl.
  • Go to Page3.com, click on "Archives", and go to the date that you brought your Bonnie home (her birthday).
  • The Page 3 Girl for that day is your bike's name. There you have it, a beautiful British girl's name for a beautiful British bike. The girl for today (Sept 5) is... Katie!
Let's hear it for lovely Katie...
If you're not happy with the name for the day you brought her home, pick one that's close. Or something entirely different. Either way, it's a great way to spend a little time.

Hi Skyblue62.

That's great info. Wow, the thought that your father would have worked on my old bike is fantastic.

Cheers.
