Question Needles on '07America

How do All,
I'm busy buying some parts for my America "upgrade"

I've fitted Staintunes already and ripped the AI.
Next is going to be a Freak Kit with Jetting etc.

My question is : "Can/Should I fit the standard Thruxton Needles in my America?"

(I can not find a set of TBS needles anywhere)

According to Pat's jetting calc, doing this would then require 150 Mains and 45 Pilots for my ellavation. Any comments?

Should I leave the Stock needles and go bigger Mains? Which is better and what would the difference in performance be?

Brent is standing by to ship whatever I may require ...

Thanx in advance!

not to further your question or start a debate,,but i have a couple concerns with some of your planned changes. i do not have the freak kit but i do have aftermarket carbs that have rendured the airbox useless, problem here as with the freak is it leaves the crank vent open to atmosphere. to counter this i purchased the krank-vent wich is going to set you back another fast 100 dollars plus. also, i highly dougbt bigger mains is an issue because they only are really used when throttle is "WFO". as for needles i also tried many other sets and came up with nothing notable, in the end i decided that the stock cvk carbs are extremely limited in design as to what can be tuned. wich led to the pricy aftermarket carbs purchased. another costly addition. so,, strictly my opinion only,, your going to have to work with shims and jets only to tune to the upgrades as best you can. gas mileage and seamless throttle is a great indicator your carbs are providing proper fuel ratio as well as exhaust pipe color for the novice tuner. with a little practice you can get quite good with these methods. just my thoughts, not to be taken seriously by anyone.

Thruxton needles oughta be about right. May even be able to shim them, but i think they would likely be good by themselves. i have my airbox still, but it's got a uni filter and the snorkel is gone and the bottom cut out to double the intake area. And in that state with 130 mains the thruxton needles were a bit too rich especially at high revs. Otherwise they were close. So they should be good with the box removed. then you can always experiment with shims, which by the way i would highly recommend. i found the majority of the eyebrow raising gains i got while tuning my bike were from needle/shim changes. TBS needles by the way are very long, and i found with 3 shims the bike ran almost exactly the same as thruxton neeldes with no shims. 3 shims made them the same length as the thrux, and the taper looked similar. i felt the difference was a tiny bit better off the line with the thrux, and a tiny bit stronger midrange with the TBS and 3 shims. otherwise very similar. so yeah, i'd say try the thruxtons once the box is removed.

Thumbs down Tbs

I'm in the US (Portland) on business and have tried both dealers in town. Nothing. I also tried every dealer back home (South Africa)... Nada!

The dealers back home run with minimal parts/accesories/clothing. Really peeves me. I did however have to buy another huge bag to take stuff home with me!!!

Or palmbeachtriumph.com
I and a number of others have bought from them. But whoever you buy needles from, they may have to order them because most dealers don't stock parts like that.
