I had one of the Davida pudding bowls. Loved the look but hated the noise. It was louder than riding bareheaded. Also, my ears touched one part of the edge and no matter how much I adjusted the interior my ears were in pain after an hour. Also, for $250 the materials and construction should be of a much higher quality IMO and should include a free night at the Bunny Ranch, (ie the edge trim. Duct tape! really!). I guess that's what we pay for nostalgia.
I got one of these
JP Helmetslast year. It was a good helmet and it came within a week from HK. It had a bigger shell since it's "legal" but it was smaller than those Death Star commander size "legal" half helmets. The neck curtain was thicker which cut the noise down and it zipped off which was nice for a hot day. There's only 2 bad things about that helmet. The lock buckle system broke inside of a couple weeks, but there's a pair of double D rings already on the strap, (I guess they know the buckle is crap), and the goggles are truly just for looks. I liked it more than the Davida. I ended up throwing it in with a bike that I sold. I was okay, but I didn't really like the way it looked on my head.
I'm super picky about helmets. They have to fit me perfectly, have low noise without earplugs, (I have sensitive ears), cannot put any strain on my neck, (herniated cervical disk) and they have to look good.
I don't care about the DOT thing. If the gubment wants me to be that safe they should outlaw motorcycles. The tests have no basis in reality IMO.
I really like my $30 beanie and 1971 glitter gold Arthur Fulmer.
