brooklyn bike shop dyno jerk around - the aftermath
the bike gained about 7HP, bringing it up to 62.7 according to the "after" graph, which douchebag finally printed out. is that decent? how does this compare to your bikes, guys?
performance is noticeably better on the highway... previously, it was so rich that it just fell apart at about 5000rpm, as you can see on the attached graph. the graph has before and after information... so the nice smoothly ascending line is the "after" HP and torque. i welcome comments regarding these graphs:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c100/metasac/dynotune.jpg
however - the bike still backfires occasionally on startup just like it used to and now has some weird flat spot in the lower rpms of gears one and two (only when it's cold) . the flat spots disappear after the bike warms up. popping on deceleration is gone, however.
should i be experiencing this kind of stuff after a dyno tune? is this the behavior of a non fuel-injected bike? or could this be due to a different problem that a tune wouldn't fix...? my petcock sticks, for instance, and i wonder about the fuel supply. when i get my manual back tomorrow i'm going to disassemble and clean it and probably replace it.
lastly - in all fairness - the guy, although indeed a douchebag, DID say that if i don't think it's running right to bring it back and he'll make it right. the question is - after this whole weeklong debacle (for those of you who read my earlier post) - would YOU leave your bike with him? i'm almost compelled to get my money's worth and have him perfect it, but it might be a week or two before i see it again. it would be for no additional charge, however.
i look forward to your replies.

Move forward
I would have taken the bike back immediately, and have it made right. Also would agree to a time comment with him. Your almost were you want to be few more inches and your dailed in.
Personally I have not had a dyno tune done, armed with the information we all share on this site and utilization of that info my bike runs great!! But I can also understand the frustration of dealing with a shop that has a disenchanting serve level.
I also look at it from the shops level, not all bikes are created equal some are a pain in the ass to get right, but when right they are sweet!

If the bike is back firing on startup, was the choke left on? Did the bike backfire before the tune? If the bike was tuned properly the bike should have no flat spots period. If she is falling on her face at 5k I think your too fat on the main jets. I beleive popping on decel can be tuned out by changing the pilots...I beleive you are leaning out on decel. What was you air/fuel through out the rpm range? Personnaly I tune by the seat of pants dyno....it doesnt lie to me...require corrections...or justify their fees for dyno time. Was 5-7 hp worth what you paid for bike that still doesnt run right?

42 pilots and 110 mains is no kinda jetting for a bike with no airbox. 110's are stock, and 42's are not needed. What has worked very well on my bike and others with a similiar set-up to yours, is stock 40 pilots, 140 mains, and 1 shim on the needle. Learn to do this stuff yourself, and erase the douchebag factor

Tough call!
metasac - this is a tough call. I am inclined to agree completely with Stealth but it really comes down to how comfortable you feel with this guy. Maybe after this bad experience they might turn around and try to win your confidence and loyalty in which you would be golden going forward. Otherwise what you suspect about huge time delays between when you drop her off and when you pick her up might become true and then it is not worth it. You will have to decide about your comfort level with them and go from there.

Mains too small
yes I had one of those (douchbags) do the same mods on my Scrambler. When I first got it back it ran like sh*t. I insisted that he give me a bigger main jet (150)‚- he indignantly agree and the problem stopped. However, he got the tuning right. No backfiring and a noticeable gain in power. I'd take it back to him and make him fix it. It shouldn't backfire at all.

The problem with tuning is.
It's kind of subjective you could take it to ten dyno dealers and have different results for your runs.
At the end of the day does it suit how you ride, are you happy with how it runs and is your A/F within safe limits.
If thats ok I'd ride it for a while and reserve judgement.
The thing to remember is that you've done quite a few mods there, your own expectations of the ride are what counts not the numbers.
all the best.
