Smile air filter plate

it looks to me that you could enlarge the hole that the snorkle fits in by about 3/8", would that have the same results as a bellmouth? guess i'm being cheap. thanks for everybody's input. will most likely buy the nh bellmouth.

Make a search on the forum on bellmouth first. There is a Polaris snowmobile part that you can use instead that's way cheaper than the NH part. There's also some posts regarding if the bellmouth does much good anyway. (don't ask me I don't know...)
Cheers!

baby steps

You know, you *could* just pull the snorkle and stop there. That will let the extra air in. The bellmouth is just supposed to "smooth" the air that rushes into that opening - which doesn't make sense to me because the next thing all that smooth air is going to do is slam into the filter and then swirl around through the hole in the restrictor plate. Someone posted a while back that the drag coefficient of the bellmouth vs. the raw opening vs. the size of the opening was such that the impact was going to be on the order of a couple percent of the airflow. So, you could just skip the bellmouth altogether (I did).

On the other hand, there is definitely a certain "rushing" sound of air into that big hole. Maybe the bellmouth diminishes that a bit, I dunno.
