Stupid Question

Can I leave my Bonnie out on the rain?

Also how often should I wash it and with what?

Doh!

Thanx!

I wouldn't. Riding in some rain is cool, but letting it just sit there in the rain is another thing as far as I am concerned. Just tarp it, or at least cover the electric components. As far as cleaning, I normally clean mine every couple of weeks, but I dont get it that dirty. And it isn't like i do a full detailing clean every time. On nice days I would rather ride it then clean it. The Triumph website has cleaning instructions, but per bikeworld reviews, Glare products seem to be the best. I have Turtlewax ICE... and hate it, doesnt seem to leave a layer at all, good for a couple days shine but thats about it.

Don't leave it in the rain-that's just not nice! Cover at the very least.

I wipe my bikes down with Plexus after every ride. Takes all of 10 min. Of corse, I don't do the chrome while it's hot but hit it right befor the next ride-which is every day! Bike looks like a million bucks.

Good timing for the post, Drew, as I was just thinking of the cleaning issue today. Someone on this site, I believe is was a female RAT[Badrufus maybe?], said she opted for simple wipe downs with a wet cloth rather than the full blown soap bath. It works well for me.

I have done a full waxing of my bike twice since I got it in Feb. of this year, the most recent being just before my 1000 mile [that was only 700 mile] Iron Butt ride. I have an ultra soft terry-wrapped sponge from Auto Zone, and I put warm water in a bucket, gently wipe down the glossy painted parts, then dry with an old t-shirt. I use a regular sponge for the frame, chrome, etc. Works great . I did it today and took abouty 15 minutes. Additionally, I clean the wheels separately, like on a different day, with a little Wonder Sauce [aka WD40] on a rag and wipe down.

With a good wax job, I don't think it is necessary for a full wash job all the time.

And the rain? My bike lives in a garage - lucky me. I would not leave it exposed to the elements all the time.

rain is not good, try to find something to park it under, especially if you expect rain.

I have mine parked under a staircase landing a lot of the time, and I also have a storage unit near my place. If I know it it going to rain for a few days I'll take it up there where it's climate-controlled and dry.

At least get a cover!

Build yourself a garage. How would you like to sleep in the rain?

A good hose down with a brush and car shampoo for the mud and dust. Dry with a chamois leather. Good quality wax for the painted bits (I use Motorex motorcyle wax) and chrome polish (Motip works for me) for the shiny bits. I finish off with Turtle wax extra gloss. Next wash is simpler and requires less effort as the dirt floats the off the wax. After a while just a wash is enough.

Ernie.

I would use Pledge and some WD-40 after the rain.

I find that if I spray the bike down with a liberal coating of WD40 before it rains, the rain never actually touches the surface of the bike. Probably because I leave it in the garage when it rains because I'm a wuss.
