Stock scrambler tires have to go

Hello fellow scrambler riders. I know this has been mentioned before but at 3000 miles my front tire was badly cupped on the sides from cornering the bike it had a vibration,so over the weekend I mounted metzler tourance tires. The bike handles great and it really has a smooth ride now.I'm wondering now if I should have gone with a street tire- anyway the stock tires really have to go for me they proved to be way to soft.

I was curious about the Metzlers & have read a lot of threads about stock ones not being great. I'm approaching changing mine & am curious how the Metzlers are. Do they handle way way better than stock????

Yes, with just a days on them I can tell I'm already cornering with much more confidence. The tourance is also quieter to-course that only applies with a stock exhaust.

Yup, my front tire is badly cupped also. Only have 5,000 on it. I've read a couple threads about the Metzlers being a great replacement, best part is (for me) they still keep the off road look to the bike.

Harvey,I like your moniker.I wonder how many people catch it? I have seen your moniker on another bike forum, but I can't remember which. Is that you?

Cheers!

I have just replaced my stock Scrambler tyres with Tourances. They are quieter and the turn in much quicker. The pattern is also in keeping with the Scrambler's off road image.
I must confess however that I do miss my bike humming to me.

I went with the Metzeler Tourance tires at about 800 miles. I am well pleased with the handling and smoothness and now have 2500 miles with no problems. As mentioned above the turn in seems quicker and the grip in both wet and dry is great, they are definately confidence inspiring in the mountain twistys that I ride quite often, plus the fact that the forest service roads and occasional field ride can be taken on with confidence.

Hi folks,

Bike magazine in the UK did a comparison of tyres under the heading:

"The best tyres for big trailies"

They used an R1200GS, unsurprisingly, but it did compare the major Dual Sport tyres, including the Tourance, as well as a batch of road biased tyres availble in 19 front 17 rear.

If anyone's interested, I could rustle up the info and post it.

Regards,

Ian

Hey Bruce,

Thanks for the welcome. I used to post here with the same name, only no space. I lost it when the website changed.....I hadn't noted my new email address and couldn't log back in. I was lucky enough that no one had my new spelling.

Brian
