Yamaha Handle Bars

Okay being new to bikes I learned on my Father in law's 1977 XS650 which by the way is what led me to get a bonnie. apparently in 77 the jp were trying to build a better bonnie! i love my bonnie more than anything in the world but there is one thing that is driving me nuts and I would love some advice and suggestions on where to get a replacement. The Handle Bars.... on the yamaha it had these handle bars that sat up straighter and were taller almost like what I see in all the old 60's series Triumphs anybody got a link on where to find old bars like that, that are made to fit the new bonnies? Has anyone tried said bars and have an opinion and or pictures?
thanks in advance!

Cheers!™

Arrow Western Bars

Your probably, like me, looking for Western Bars.

A little on the expensive side but they are suppose to be the exact replica of the Bonnie's that were imported into the USA in the 60's / 70's. I will pull the trigger on these for the gang and do a full report in the hear future.

Cable Kit

Not too bad a price really. The question I have is do you need the extra cable kit with it? this looks awesome wish I could find some down here to look at in person.

Arrow Yes

Yes - from what I understand the Norman Hyde Bars are the real deal and they require the extension kit to make them fit. Bella Course sells some Western Bars as well that do not require an extension kit but from what I have learned they are not much different from our stock bars.

I was interested in the Western bars too... but didn't want to spring for the bars and the wiring kit. I just got my riser kit from Bellacorse yesterday. Will install tonight and check them out during tomorrow's lunch/ride with any mid-MD Rats that show up, and let you know what I find out.

Figure out the rise and pull back ya want then go here for many different bars.

This way you are getting bars with the ergos you want vs just a few choices. They have both 1" and 7/8" diameters

Risers installed

Risers installed last night. Went for a brief ride around the neighborhood last night to check everything, then rode into work this morning.

Installation: Went on fairly quickly. It helps to have a second person to hold the bars in place while you slip the risers in, and wiggle the bars around to seat them and angle them. It fits without running new cables. I kept the bars at the stock angle so I didn't have to adjust the mirrors or angles of the levers. The clutch cable is quite taut... It shifted ok today, but the clutch didn't seem to engage as smoothly when I released the lever so I figure I'll see if there's enough adjustment in the cable to ease it out a bit.

Looks: Seems obviously different to me... but probably not to someone else. Suddenly have room for a fork bag.

Riding Posture: The first thing I noticed was that my knees seemed closer to the tank...I prefer riding with my knees on the tank, but I wasn't quite in the right place before adding the risers. I think I'm sitting a bit more upright which is allowing my hip angle to close... dunno. My feet feel solidly under me. Need more miles to see if it helps the shoulder ache that I sometimes get on long rides.

Handling: Feels the same or slightly better for me, since my arms are positioned better to push and pull.

Wind at 70mph: Might have increased slightly, or might have had a crosswind today... still comfortable to tuck and put my feet on the passenger pegs.

I'll try to snap a pic later today.

I've installed the Bella Corse Western Bars on my 2007 T100 without issue and with the stock cabling. It is tight and you have to fiddle with it a little, but it will work. I've put 2,500 km on the bike with these bars and the stock cabling/wiring and there have been no problems with cable binding etc.

The bars are very comfortable and look great IMHO.

2 kinds of Western bars

Bellacorse Western bars do not require new cables

Norman-Hyde (NewBonneville) Western bars DO require longer cables
