Paint quality :thumbs down:

Unfortunately I'm here to report that the paint quality, or maybe I should say the clearcoating, on my Bonneville's tank is horrible. Took her for a fill up at the local station yesterday and the pump was broken and leaked gas ALL OVER my tank. I quickly grabbed a nearby paper towel to wipe it off. My tank was 90% covered in gasoline. And then it was too late.

I'm now a proud owner of a 1000+ tiny hairline scratches in the paint on my tank.

YAY FOR ME!!!!!

Time for a good polish, but too bad those scratches are there to stay.

Mine's still looking like it came out of the showroom 6 years ago, even after several overspills wiped up with paper towels.

After a bit of elbow grease and some T-Cut and wax, I'm sure yours will be fine!

same thing

Stock, I did the same thing on my first or second fill up....I have the same scratches you do. I have buffed and polished but I can still see a bit of them.

I have had an overspill a couple of times when filling up.I think the filler hole is too small so you cant see the petrol [gas] when it gets near the top, which would allow you to slow off on the filling speed when nearly full. Most other bikes I have owned have had a much bigger filler hole so you can see how it is doing. Not had any problems with the paint afterwards though, was just relieved it did not catch fire on the red hot downpipes [headers]

Same here, I've spilt on mine, with no probs.

Is there a difference in the recipe of 'Gasoline' to 'Petrol'?

Under tank Bag Harness.

I spilled gas when my tank bag was on my bike , even though the gas got under the harness and it took about 5 mins to get it off the bike before I could wipe it down there was no harm done.

Mines defo a UK bike so could it be Thaiwanese quality control?

Hmmm, I've spilled gas on my T100 and had no problems. As far as the Thailand quality thing I thought all painting was still done in England anyway ???????? Tanks shipped to Thailand for final assembly

I don't believe there is a difference, it's the same liquid, although our octane rating is higher for UK standard unleaded than U.S. unleaded

One thing you will find, paper towels will scratch ANY paint. you need a soft cotton cloth to be rubbing on your tank. Sometimes you have to grab the first thing handy-but it aint the paints fault
