Scrambler Smog removal

i just bought a new 2006 scrambler. I see that annoying smog canister under it, and wonder what is peoples experience with removing it. I know it has to add some decent ponies. What is involved with doing it?
I tried a search, and found nothing.

My bike just feels really slugish. Do the $500 slip on silencers honestly do anything? Anything else that makes some noticeable power?

Thanks so much.

Branden

Also in the OC - I just removed that stuff from my 07 T100 last week. Get rid of the air injection system and the cannisters below the swingarm and you'll be much better off. Both jobs require a couple of hours aggregate - not even a 6-pack job.

Removing the AI system is easy, and will help reduce heat build-up in the head and probably stop any "popping" from the pipes on decel. The black cannisters on the bottom/back side of the motor just recover "emissions" coming off the carb vent when the bike isn't running. This system, (two cannisters, two valves and several hoses) can be easily removed, but I'd only do so if you don't need to have the bike emission tested. I've done both modifications, with no problems. Just be sure to keep the carb vent open, and seal up the vaccuum ports. Some good detailed instructions for both projects can be found on the wiki site associated with this website.

Neither of these projects will do anything to improve performance, however. Try some good aftermarket pipes, remove the snorkle, install a high flow filter, and re-jet the carbs / drill the slides for some performance gains. Check out the Jenks guide for more details on all this. Lots of help is available to those who ask on this site!

Good luck!

Depends on how you look at it... zip ties currently keep the exhaust from burning the rest of the way through my clutch cable...

Anyone have a link to this now? I can't seem to find it anymore.
