Oneway it depends on which country you're in? and any extras fitted. The oil under front sprocket it probably residue from the chain.

Bonnie resale prices are all over the map and where you are does make a big difference, as does mileage, add ons and changes to the bike, condition and how the bike has been maintained, etc.

First figure out what it is going to cost you to fix the fork seals and anything else you need to fix: tires, etc. for you to be satisfied with the bike and factor that into your true cost.

If you are in the US, then check the average price in your area at kbb.com; then check the prices for the same model on cycletrader.com. You can check the asking prices in the classifieds here, but IMHO they tend to be too high and emotionally driven much of the time.

Couple of places to look: www.nada.com has used motorcycle prices that can serve as a guide. You can also search on eBay and click on "check just sold listings" to see what bikes are selling for.

My experience: don't buy someone else's problem unless you're prepared to pay to make it right... and if you're willing to do that, you can buy one that's already in top shape.

A great way to get a good deal is to call different dealers and see if they still have last year's model - new - in stock. You can save a couple grand pretty easily AND get the full warranty.

Whatever you do, I wish you all the best!
