Hello all. I have a 2002 Bonneville t100 with 20,000 miles that is giving me major headaches. She was running fine and just took a cross country trip from NC to LA. I got here and she started bogging in low gear. She recently started backfiring very badly when Im starting it and it was a very hard start. It was also blowing white smoke out of the intake manifolds when it would backfire. But now she wont start at all. It sounds like it isn't getting any fuel. The left cylinders spark plug is rich but I can't see why. The right looks good. Also when I start it I hear a repetitive puffing noise that is in time with the motor turning over that I believe is coming from the left carb.
I have cleaned the carbs a dozen times and they are spotless. Float height is good. Spark is good. New in line fuel filter, gas tank filter is fine. Good gas flow. Replaced the intake manifolds and the O-rings from the carb to the cylinder. Clean air filter. Vacuum hoses look fine. Crank case breathing hose looks fine. The pilot screw is at 2.5 turns but I'm not sure if my idol is at the right spot. But i have messed with it constantly while trying to start it so Im sure it would have started eventually or at least puttered. But she wont do a damn thing. I was wondering where I should set my idol because I have tried both opening the butterfly valves more and then I tried keeping them almost closed on start. The puffing sound coming from the carbs worries me and I think that might be my culprit but I can't figure out whats causing it.
If anyone has any ideas that would be a life saver. Shes my only mode of transportation out here in LA and I'm screwed if I can't get it going.
