Valve clearance?
Haynes manual says every 12,000 miles or 2 years, called the dealer and they said it won't need it for another 5000 miles ( 7200 on bike, 2 years old in 2 days). Now the bike goes to the dealer tommorrow for an oil leak form a bolt behind the starter. Should it be done now or wait another 6 months when I get to 12,000 miles, Thanks

My dealer, whom I trust, told me not to worry about it until 12,000 miles.

Here's the thing. The Haynes says 12K. The Owner's Manual says 8K. I never looked at the chart in the Owner's Manual so I missed the 8K and did it at 11K. Nothing out of spec. I reckon I'll wait to at least 20K before I do it again. OR when the engine gets quiet. That is never a good sign.
My indy mech tells me, and he is good, that if shim in bucket valve systems don't go out of spec in 12K they are unlikely to go south for a long, long time. Hope he is right.

valves
buds BA has had an exhaust valve click on the left side for 6+ mo0s. He isnt too worried about it so ? Got 11000 mi. I agree that if they dontgoout by 12000 mi then you gotsome time till they do. I remember the old Jag days. I think (same shim) valve adjustment was like30-40000 mi?? I only remember doing it once tho & it was an old car. When that time comes it will nbe time to tweak the engine!! Till then ride her & enjoy!!

Monte, I believe that Triumph has once agian backed off on the service schedule for the valves. I'm pretty sure it is 12k now.
Notice I hedged in that I said "pretty sure". (almost positive)
I had an oil leak at the cam cover at just about 8K miles. since the cover was off then I checked the clearences. 2 were slightly tight.

CHECKING the clearance is pretty cheap...if you trust your mechanic to be honest about the results - ie don't tell you you need adjust when you don't.
So have him check it, what the heck.

Or even cheaper and easier yet.... get a feeler gauge and check them yourself. Checking them is easy. Changing them takes a little more time and patience.
Chances are they'll be ok.

Yeah, Triumph changed the 8K to 12K for the valves.
Time factor: I can see the reasoning behind a time factor for oil changes; however, I fail to see the reasoning behind a time factor for valve clearance adjustment.

+1 with what others are saying. Just wait till 12,000 miles. And checking the valves is easy -- don't be afraid to do it yourself. I checked mine at a little over 12k and didn't have to adjust any, although two of the exhaust valves were a little on the tight side. I just checked the valves again at a little over 18k to make sure those exhaust valves hadn't tightened up more; no change there, but two of the intake valves loosened up ever so slightly. Once again, not enough to bother adjusting them.
At 24k I'll check them again, and at that time will probably adjust them to get all valves right in the middle of their spec range.

Interesting tidbit about valve adjustment on new BMW F800
Apparently, the recommended mileage for this bike is 12K. However, the tech plugs in the 'computer' that checks several items, mostly electronic. One item it checks is mileage compared to how hard the engine has been run .... the bike computer probably logs how many times or how long the bike is run at high rpm. If ridden easily, it'll recommend a longer valve adjustment interval, if ridden hard, a shorter interval.
Not sure I like this!
