Wink New Speedmaster n a couple of questions

Hi All

I just bought a new Speedmaster and have just run it in and had the 800km service completed today. Here are my questions:
1:\ Anyone recommend good heated grips for the 1 inch bars
2:\ How many km does the bike do on a standard tank cruising on an open road before needing to switch over to reserve. And how many km do you get on reserve.
3:\ I just bought a Triumph leather tank protector for the bike and it has a wee pocket on it with a nice Triumph badge. Apart from packing my viagra in it for weekends away what is the pocket supposed to hold :-)

Gday Corky.
I get about 230 to 250 kms before I need to switch to reserve. I have gone another 20 kms or so till I find a service station. I am not tempted to see what I can get out of the tank. A full tank is 16 litres and around 3 litres of that is for reserve.
Dont know what the little pocket is for on the leather tank protector but I am tempted to get one to save my tank getting scratched by my jacket zippers. I havent seen one up close so I dont know the size of the pocket. Will it fit a mobile phone ?, ciggies ?, lighter ?.

safe riding dude.

Derek

Hey Corky
I just remembered. Bet you could fit the tool kit supplied with the bike when new into the pocket of the tank protector.

Corky,
I can reach the 160's before I start looking for a place to get gas. I have went as high as 171 miles before shifting to reserve and have had to shift to reserve as low as 160. I do not know why there is such a wide gap between the two but I usually do not wait till I need to shift to reserve before I get fuel. When I hit 150 I usually start looking and get gas.

I can't help with your other two questions because I do not have heated grips nor do I own a tank bag.

Kevin...

G'day and welcome to the Speedmaster club!

I get about 270km average a tank full and have done over 300km just last week. Reserve wise I have done 35km before finding fuel. I usually start looking for a petrol station at about 220km. My bike is standard ( I believe getting it tuned really hurts the consumption figures).

I look for fuel at about 240K as well and don't know about reserve . The leather pocket is quite small, I keep my gas cap key on a chain in there with a lighter, pen and pack of gum. The cover itself, over time will leave rub marks on the paint. I put strips of electrical tape on the tank under the cover and it helps.

I looked at that tank cover, but from the looks of it the most I'd be able to fit in there would be vehicle paperwork and my identification (which I have to constantly provide to guards where I work).

In the end I decided against it, but I might end up buying it anyways since the dealer told me he would cut me a sweet deal on it.

I get around 145 - 150 miles until reserve

Thanks very much Normandy for that piece of useful advice. I will try to find some tape here for the tank as I definitely don't want it rubbing the tank.

260-270km to reserve. To get 300km, you probably need to drive 80km/h all the way.

Correct, to get that far on the tank I had to commute on the M5 'car park', bored stiff at about 80 -100 average for 3 days on the run - I did not say it was fun, in fact the only interesting thing was watching the tripmeter go past 300
