Brake light & Headlight out at same time?

Yesterday my brake light went out, and the main bulb in
my headlight went out at the same time.

After inspecting the brake light bulb, I noticed it was indeed burned out.
So I replaced it and it works fine.

There is a jingle in the headlight when I shake it, so I'm going
to try and replace it.

Anyone know why these two would go out at the same time?
Does this indicate a bigger electrical problem? Just coincidence
perhaps?

I recently installed new turn signals, but wired them just like the old
ones so surely that's not the problem....

There is a real "rat's nest" of wiring in the headlight shell. I would recommend pulling off the headlight reflector part and inspecting the wiring in the headlight shell...its possible that you will find a loose connection and some connectors needing to be repositioned a little to make more room for the headlight reflector and headlight bulb connection.

When someone says brake light, I almost always assume they are talking about the tail-light part of the tail-light/brake-light combo unless they specifically mention things only applying to the brake side of the circuit.

While you are in the headlight shell, it would be a good time to put some more dielectric grease on any of the connectors that look to be in need of some more.

Don't know the source of the problem, GPark, but if mine blew like that, I'd think it not to be a coincidence. Start running through those wires!

If it was me, I'd assume coincidence first (given no other indications of a problem) and just replace the bulbs. I have a 1200 Bandit and it went through 3 indicator bulbs, a headlamp bulb and a tail lamp in the space of 3 days. Fact is, they'd all been in service for the same period (about 5 years) and were just reaching the end of their service life together.

Starting to tinker around with electrical connectors when there could be no need at all could just cause a real problem.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm getting a new headlight bulb tomorrow.
Hopefully that will be that. Thanks for the input.
