The amount of goo is incredible
I'm replacing the chain and sprockets on the T100 this afternoon. First step ... clean out the accumulated chain lube from the sprocket cover and from behind the countershaft sprocket. Bike should be five mph faster just losing the weight!
This is the first chain/sprocket replacement on the T100. I don't feel too badly, the first set made it to nearly 21,000 miles. But due to some strange vibes that can't be attributed to anything else, it's time to do the final drive. The small shop where I purchased the chain and sprockets once again spin balanced the wheel, and found nothing out of balance. Also, the wheel spins true .... no axial or radial run out. I plan to ck the swing arm for smooth movement and any side play while I have the back wheel removed.
For such a simple job as chain replacement, I'm always nervous until I have both pins in the master link correctly rivited in place. Maybe that's a good thing, because it makes me take my time doing chains. There's too much riding on doing it right.
I'm looking forward to a Bonnie that is considerably smoother than she has been. New chain and sprockets .....can't hurt!
BTW - has anyone read where one of the bike mfgs has located the countershaft sprocket on the same pivit point as the swingarm pivits? I think it's BMW, on one of their new F800 belt drive bikes, but it makes a lot of sense. That'd be cool on a chain drive bike, since it'd eliminate a lot of the issues over how tight/how loose the chain should be.
