I've got an '03 SM (which I love very dearly) It has an unusual paint job consisting of grey/silver sunburst to black with two ribbons of racing-type checkered flags down the sides of the top. The same checkered flag ribbon runs down my the center of my front and rear fenders. These do not appear to be decals, but rather part of the paint.

When I talked to the parts manager at the shop where I bought it, he said that he thought it was part of some limited edition run, SMs had the checkered flags, Americas had the US Flag, and Bonnies had the Union Jack.

He went on to say that only 250 of each were done. Can anyone confirm/dispute this? I'd love to think it's true, but I have issues thinking that I'm that lucky.

Can you provide a photo of it? I remember something similiar, but I am in no position to confirm anything. I take it you bought it used?
