Bobbing fenders

When people say they are bobbing their rear fender, do you all mean cutting it or replacing it with one already cut? Reason I ask is I really want to do the same, but if you all are doing it yourselves and not buying the new ones, i will most likely try for myself too. I would imagine that a dremal cut wheel, sandpaper, and a little touch-up paint is all that is needed correct?

That's exactly the method I used on my front fender of my silver 06. I did the FEK on the rear, but you can do the same on the rear one as well.

Thx

Thx guys, i didnt even see that tread on Wiki... should have looked hard... but that is perfect and will be doing this tomorrow. Anybody think it will work on a chrome fender? Would a clearcoat protect it on the edge?

I think it may work even better on chrome. No chipping and some clear to protect the raw metal from prevent rust. Mine are bobbed and the front is bobbed back past and eliminated the two braces.

Sweet

Nice, not much wobble on it I take it? I was thinking the same, but not sure if the brace is needed.

I think the struts are purely cosmetic. The front fender is a solid as ever not a bit of wobble. The braces do have a place for the speedo cable to run through, but mine has never had a problem with the struts gone. The speedo cable is pretty stiff. In fact I don't think the Thruxton's have the braces and they do fine.

I used a sharpie to draw lines for where to cut on my fender and then took it down to a local custom chopper shop to have it cut. Cost me 30 bucks. I then had both front and rear fenders painted black for another 100 bucks. Here's a few pics...

Very nice Oregon. But shouldn't you get the Scrambler if you want to ride off-road? ;-)
