Crush washer

I know this has been discussed recently and I was told that Honda parts makes a 14mm crush washer that will work for the Bonnie oil drain plug. Is that inside or outside diameter? Anyone know? And the Honda parts guy in Duluth says the parts list doesn't list diameter size. I have 5000 miles on this oil so I'm getting nervous to change it.

I work for a Honda car-dealership. Guess where my crush washers come from?

12 oil changes. Same drain plug gasket. No leaks. Never went over 2000 miles on an oil chnage. Most have been less.

I've been using the original Triumph crush washer for all of the oil changes that I've done to my bike.

+1

Re-use the same washer but be sure to use a torque wrench and tighten it correctly.

The worst think that is going to happen is that you are going to get the odd drop of oil. If you see a drop of oil, replace the washer with a new one the next oil change.

I agree that it is not necessary at all to change the crush washer every oil change. Obviously the reason you change it is because it is designed to deform under torque pressure. I don't need a torque wrench but just tighten it until it stops with a 10" socket wrench and give it a little tug. Never had a leak; never lost a drain plug.

For newbies a helpful hint, I hope, would be to buy ONE more crush washer and, when you next change the oil, compare the old washer to the new one. If it has little or no deformation, use it. If you are careful about not using too much macho muscle on the plug a crush washer will last for many oil changes. Over the years I have quite an accumulation of various sized crush washers, one of each, that I never had to use.

Gentlemen indulge one more question on this oil thing please. NAPA had the oil filter I need. I just want to triple check and be sure the AMSOIL 20/50 (says its excellent for wet clutches) will be okay to use. Thats a question BTW. I know my dealer is using either Mobil 1 or Repsol 4T 15/50. Its just the NAPA only has the AMSOIL. And does synthetic really break down that much?
