ANGRY new guy...

Well... I've been reading on this forum for maybe 3 months now and have learned a lot. I didn't need to post until now because I could always find my answer in another thread.

I've had my '04 bonneville black around 2 months now and finally got my D&D pipes in that I ordered a over a month ago. After re-jetting and doing the airbox removal I pull my pipes out and start to put them on... I shortly realize that the company I ordered from sent me two left side pipes.

...So I rode home from my buddies house with straight pipes and a frown.

question#1: Would riding with the straight pipes hurt anything? The company I orderd from is closed until Aug. 7th. I thought about going thru D&D themselves and eliminating the problem.

question#2: I was unable to set the air-mixture on the carbs (three turns out) because I didn't have the tool. Until I can get to a shop will riding the bike be a bad idea? I can feel some hesitation on take off in first gear and I'm guessing thats the problem... I dunno.

Thanks!

Personaly I'd be patient.

1. Ok it's a bit of a downer, but you'll probably, get talked to by the law at some stage about the noise and if they ticket you, you'll just be angrier.

2. There are probabaly jetting issues with your straight throughs.

3. As much as we like to feel like hooligans hankering after our misspent youth, How do you get on with your neighbours?

"rejetting"--I assume that is the main jets only? "airbox removal" Did you use a kit or cut up the existing airbox or are you by chance talking Air Injector (AI) removal? List your carb changes so we can better advise, please.

1. Put your stock silencers back on and ride. You will be rich on the top end but probably not too rich, if you didn't remove the airbox. I still believe that with the stock silencers on they will be the limiting factor and you will not have too much air going in the intake. See how it runs in the mid-range--that is where you ride most of the time...it may be fine until you get your silencers sorted. It should only take you a little while to change the jets if you need to....since you haven't changed the Pilot screw adjustment, it should be OK for the stock silencers. If you changed the pilot jets, I would recommend changing them back to stock--again it doesn't take much time to do this.

2. You could always debaffle the stock silencers if it is a bonnie...the later ones (2007 and maybe 2006) are a bit different than the earlier ones. You should be able to find instructions on this site--but be sure they are for your year because the inside of the silencers are different. I did the ones on my '03 while I had them off and it was pretty easy to do on the work bench.

It is a good idea to show your bike model, year, and mods with each post--it helps us know what you are talking about.

About the D&D pipes. He probably just orders them from D&D and sends them to your address without opening and checking. I just got a set of pipes from a similar middleman and they came in an unopened D&D box.

There is one quality issue with one of the pipes. One of the pipes doesn't fit quite right because the two holes that the peg latches into are drilled too far apart. Sounds to me like maybe D&D is having some quality issues.

Okay. I really don't know how to use this forum yet as far as posting. How do you post quotes for replies and how do you list your bike and mods without typing it everytime? I'm sure its simple and I can figure it out on my own with enough time. I'm at work with little time.

I actually have the best neighbors in the world but if I need to wait then I need to wait. I realize its probably not the middlemans fault but I can't help but to still be frustrated with them. I wonder if I can eliminate the middleman and go straight to D&D.

Thanks for the replies.

I went to user control panel--on the left side under main menu, near the top. Once there I chose edit signature, and put all my stuff in my signature line.

Over the past few years, I have read numerous complaints of quality issues with D&D silencers. If you experience a quality issue, I would recommend talking to the vendor you purchased the product from about the quality issue. I believe the vendors can resolve these type issues in a timely manner.
