Thumbs down Man down :(

I suppose it had to happen, Im sitting here grazed knee, bruised side after me and the wife came off the speedy tonight.

We had been down the pub, no alchohol had passed my lips, then we went to Southend on Sea with a few other Triumphs for a burger and a cuppa.

On the way home, 11.50 pm, I needed to get some petrol.... approached the garage at about 20 mph, indicated and turned in, the front just went from under me, we was on the deck, mrs had her leg stuck under the rear wheel so I had to lift the bike off of her.. she got up which was a relief but she has hurt her ribs.

The bike looks like the left end of the handlebars has bent some more, the headlamp bezel is marked, the fly screen is marked, indicator is marked, mirror is marked, the gear lever is mega bent.. the tank.. well thats not marked in any way PHEW.

So, I can lose the fly screen.. dump the left mirror, just have one, straighten the gear lever which leaves me with the bars and bezel.. not too bad

Glad you and Mrs. are o.k. as o.k. can be I guess. Man, I've had that happen to me more than once ,about 10-20 mph turning.....and for no apparent reason the front end starts to do a dance , Ive been lucky though each time . Since then I've been avidly checking the air in my metzelers ...COLD PSI 36 front.......38 rear ,seemed to help me out some.Nothing humorous about all of a flash losing your steering......what do they call it? ....Trail,yes, that's it. I tore mine up awhile back you'd never believe it. (Your bike) It's fixable and you two get on the mend. Lucky stars it wasn't a fatality, been a lot of those around here in these parts last month or so. Sometimes I wonder why I got the bike ,around here it's almost like russian roullette. You and the Mrs. ,Get to feeling better and I'm sure you'll fix the bike one way or another. PEACE.

Been there

I've been there too. No passenger though.

Same thing happened to me about 2 years ago - except I went down on the right hand side of the bike. I scraped my knee pretty good. my leather jacket and leather gloves took a good beating which saved my hands and upper body. My right highway light got scraped and it saved my tank and enguine. My left turn signal took a beating, and I ended up with scratches on both brake levers, right mirror, rear right peg - which left a 14 feet groove in the concrete. All minor stuff. I re-affixed everything and it seemed to be okay. My rear brake lever is bent as well.

By the way,
I wish you and the wife the very best in recovery. I made my fall on the way into the parking garage at work. There I was in my comfort zone and fine little pebbles took advantage of me braking in a turn - which is a no no. One of my friends at work who also rides told me: "Well you popped your cherry today." indicating that a real rider isn't a rider unless he's dumped it. I still haven't replaced my rear brake lever or any of the parts. It's mostly cosmetic and no one even notices unless I point it all out. The brake lever is bent a little, but it works and I really never use it anyways. It is on the to do list.

Best of luck with the whole thing

All the very best.

An "It wasn't my fault" experience, which I had as well; but which provides little comfort in the short run.

The bike can be fixed, and you and the better half will mend.

Don't stay out so late?

(This coming from a geezer.)

Thanks to all for the kind words, now, after sitting down for a bit and gaining some composure I have stripped down the front end, managed to re align the handlebars, swapped front indicators so scrape is under throttle cables, painted the scrape on the clutch control, straightened the gear change, swapped mirrors again so the damage is inside at the bottom, removed the fly screen.. got one on order.. been out for a test ride and feels OK.. took her up to 95 and feels the same.

A definate lucky result.. Im back

O yea, a DOUBLE bonus.. the Mrs says when we going out for a ride

Got to love biking. It really is get-back-in-the-saddle for all of us. Glad you're both okay.

Bummer, Trojan! But glad you and the Mrs. are o.k. She sounds like a real trooper!

Gotta be careful at those gas(petrol) stations, parking decks and toll gates where oil and gasoline and crude tend to accumulate. You can sometimes almost lose your footing walking around a gas station when you step out of your car, so it's easy to see how you lost your front wheel pulling in.

Side Note (also known as "Learn from My Mistakes"):
One of the wost feeling I ever had on a bike was a nearly being "T-Boned" by a car pulling away from a pump at a station near my house. Entering the corner gas station, a truck was blocking my view of the far side of the pumps on my right and when I crossed perpendicular to them to pull straight into the parking spot of the attached convenience store for some milk, a car pulling away from the pumps cut straight across my path, seemingly from no where. Didn't even stop or slow down and passed within an inch or two of my front wheel as I slammed on my brakes. It's a close call I always think about when I pull into a gas station nowadays. One of the few times slow is the way to go on a Speedmaster.

Sorry to hear of your tumble but sounds like things are getting sorted.

As with anything else, the best thing is to get back on again as soon as...

Get the Mrs out on some B's in the sunshine and It'll soon be forgotten.

Funny thing, I was in SoS today and kept looking at Gas Station kerbings...
