Angry Why Me!!

I decided to take my Bonnie with me on vacation. My wife and I packed up the car and we set out, her in the car me on the bike. 130mi into the trip and 8mi from our family's shore house I feel the back end get very squishy...

...A flat tire. After many phone calls to anyone I knew I was forced to call a tow truck. $162.00 later the bike is at the house awaiting the local Triumph dealer (East End Motorsports, in South Hampton) to open on Tuesday.

I took a screw through the tread, is there any chance of saving the tire?

I realize you are angry but any reason you are going to repost this. Your original post is just 7 down on the page.
Time to start carrying some basics along on trip and do roadside repairs as best you can. Not everything can be done on the road but a tube change sure can in an emergency or at least once you are home. You wouldn't wait for the dealer to open if you were in your car with a flat -would you?

Thumbs up Why Me?

I once said the same thing to a very wise old American Indian friend of mine who has moved on to the big Tee-Pee in the sky.

Me: WHY ME?
Wise old Indian friend looking at me long and very carefully: Because it is YOUR TURN! I also learned the statement below from him - It is all about Acceptance and Powerlessness!

Same thing happened to me. FIRST day I had my new T100. Rode it to work and when the guys came out to admire one noticed a sheetrock screw in the rear tire. $135 for the tow and $75 for new tube , mounting and balancing. These are tubed tires so tire can most likely be saved , just make sure they put in a new tube. It just happens , Only the second flat I've had in 40 years of riding..

Other Motorcycle: Triumph Trophy TR6C (in my dreams!!!)
Extra Motorcycle: Sorry, no space in garage for another - hubby's bike takes up too much room!!
Same thing to my hubby, just brought new bike home and he's out front admiring it and I arrive and declare he has a screw in the back tyre. "Yeah whatever" came the reply, so I gleefully leaned in closer and declared "its hissing too"

Served himself right I think - he'd just traded his Bonnie in for it and I wasnt too pleased!! Backfired on me though - I ended up taking the wheel in to be plugged the next day

I would have thought drive the car to a gas station, get a can of goop to blow up and repair the hole to get 8 miles home. THen ride the bike to the dealer on Tuesday.
Incidentally my AAA policy for the cars includes full towing up to 100 miles for my bike for an extra $39/year which I think is a good deal.
No harm in plugging a tire that takes a tube, but you should get a patch n plug all in one to be super safe. I just went thru this on my Sprint with tubeless tires, but after a few miles opted to go for a new tire. A round plug in a slit (no jokes) didn't seem safe to me, although others swear its safe

err ahh

I don't believe you can plug a tubed tyre, you wouldn't beable to get the plug into the same hole with any reasonable success rate =D

I have however spooned off one side of the tyre and used a passing mt. biker's patch kit/pump to patch the tube and get home.

be well

You are correct about the plug and tube. better to pull the tube and use a patch on it and I personlly would also apply a patch on the inside of the tire- not to hold air but to reduce the chance of a rough spot rubbing the tube enough to rupture it. The patched tube would be a temporary fix as safety wise I would replace it as soon as practical (that is just me I know not everyone would agree it is needed)

Wink why not?

HedgeFund's reply made me think of a wonderful lady whom as a young priest, I had the priviledge (sp?) of befriending and caring for as she was dying after having first losing her toes then legs amputed because of diabetes and in the end died of cancer. All around her in her hospital room was her family and someone lamented, "why you, grandma?" to which her answer was, "why not, me?" I hope I remember that before I start swearing and raising my fist to the heavens when my tire goes flat with no tools or patches somewhere deep in the Adirondacks! God bless, ya, "Why Me?"

I swear by Ultraseal - it mends the puncture as it occurs and tyre fitters don't hate it as much as some of the other gloop type products.

It also keeps the tyre cooler, so they claim it aids tyre life. I don't know about that, but it has saved my tyres a few times.
